DCSO Deputy Duffy selected as Grand Marshall for Carson Valley Days parade

Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Teresa Duffy will lead the 107th annual Carson Valley Days parade as the Grand Marshall. The theme of the parade and festival is "A Salute to First Responders."

The Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club is organizing the event which runs from June 9 to June 11. The club wanted to raise awareness, celebrate, honor and, most importantly, say thank you to the first responders of Douglas County, those who protect the community on a daily basis.

Deputy Teresa Duffy received a plaque last year from the club naming her Citizen of the Yea, has received the William H. Spurgeon III award by the Nevada Boys Scouts of America Council, as well as other accolades.

Since 2005, Duffy has been one of the coordinators for the DARE/GREAT program taught in Douglas County Schools which educates students on drug and gang prevention. In addition Deputy Duffy conducts the GREAT summer program which teaches leadership skills and confidence building through outdoor adventures to 40 middle schoolers in Douglas County. She is the coordinator for the annual Trick or Treat Safety Street held on CVIC Hall in Minden. She works with TRIAD group within Douglas County which strives to improve the lives on seniors. She teaches the Senior Academy which educates seniors about local government entities. She also host food drives during the holidays.

'These are some of the activities that Deputy Duffy is involved in and depicts exemplary and dedicated service which impacts Douglas County’s youth and senior population," said Sgt. Bernadette Smith, PIO for DCSO.

Deputy Teresa Duffy is married to Captain Joe Duffy, the commander of the patrol division, SWAT commander and K-9 leader. They have one son and two dogs. Deputy Duffy is currently working on obtaining licensing as a drug and alcohol counselor.

Sheriff Ron Pierini said he is proud of Deputy Duffy’s recognition by the 20-30 Club and she is usually working diligently in the background of the Sheriff’s Office, but on Saturday, June 10 she will be riding front and center during the parade on the DCSO SWAT’s MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) and waving to the many families she serves.

The Carson Valley Days parade starts at 9:00 a.m. on Esmeralda Avenue, which then proceeds to Highway 395 and Lampe Park. (Highway 395 will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. between Buckeye Road in Minden and Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville. Traffic will be diverted around town via Waterloo/Toler/Orchard/Buckeye.
