Rolling road closure for South Lake Tahoe 4th of July parade

Event Date:
July 4, 2018 - 10:00am

The annual 4th of July Parade in South Lake Tahoe will go from Ski Run Boulevard to Bijou Community Park starting at 10:00 a.m Wednesday, and motorists need to be aware of some changes and possible delays.

Staging of the parade will be along Ski Run, and then it will head west on the two westbound lanes of US 50. Both of the eastbound lanes will be used for just one direction of traffic. At one time the City wanted to keep traffic flowing during the parade with using the two westbound lanes for two directions, and the parade use eastbound lanes but Caltrans demanded the change to what it will be on July 4.

Good places to view will be all along the westbound lanes from Ski Run to Al Tahoe, and there will be an announcer on Al Tahoe Boulevard by the LTUSD bus garage.

The two westbound traffic lanes on Highway 50 between Ski Run Blvd. and Al Tahoe Blvd will have a rolling closure for the parade from approximately 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

The two eastbound traffic lanes will be open. For traffic traveling west, consider using Pioneer Trail.

There will be a barbeque benefiting the American Legion upon conlusion of the parade. Local musician Jesse Kalin Carson will be performing his original patriotic song.

Traffic control will be provided by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department utilizing a traffic closure and Traffic Management Inc. providing flaggers at the intersections.

The parade will be led and immediately followed by emergency vehicles.

The parade will include the U.S. Marines Marching Band, floats, vehicles, approximately 200 walking participants and cyclists in celebration of the 4th of July.

"We appreciate the community’s patience and use of caution during this time to ensure the safety of all parade participants and spectators," said Tracy Sheldon, City of South Lake Tahoe Communications Manager.
