The Washoe will re-unite at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe this weekend to honor their culture and heritage during their annual Wa She Shu It’ Deh Native American Arts Festival.

This festival will be held on the Valhalla Grand Lawn at Tallac Historic Site on Saturday and Sunday, July 28 - 29, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Lake Tahoe was and is sacred ground for the Washoe Tribe. This culture and heritage celebration on its shore is hosted by the Washoe Tribe of Nevada. Representatives from tribes across the United States, Canada, Mexico and South America gather to celebrate native traditions. This longstanding festival, open to the public, features native American dancing, master basket weaving display, food, crafts, and music.

Sponsored by the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California. They currently live in four reservation communities in Northern Nevada and California: Woodfords, Dresslerville, Stewart and Carson City as well as in the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. Members from the tribe came together at this event in dance and music, told stories and shared generations of history.

The public is welcome and the festival is free to attend, though donations are appreciated. The historic Tahoe Tallac Site is located two miles past the intersection of highways 50 and 89. Head toward the lake and just past Camp Richardson on the lake side of Highway 89, turn right on the road with the sign Valhalla.
