The man responsible for over 2,300 homes being without power on Tuesday morning in South Lake Tahoe was flown to Reno after receiving major injuries in a single car crash.
According to Lt. Brian Williams of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, the unidentified man was traveling west on Pioneer Trail just before 3:30 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he left the roadway and hit a power pole.
The condition of the 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe man is unknown at this time. He had to be extricated from his Ford Explorer by SLT Fire Rescue.
Williams said it is unknown at this time if the driver had been drinking at the time of the accident, but an opened bottle of alcohol was found in the vehicle. Since he was transported by helicopter to Reno, local blood tests weren't performed. Williams did say the local man was arrested just a month ago for a DUI along with other charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
