There are less than two weeks left for Californians to register to vote on the November 4 election day. In order to be eligible to vote, one must be 18, a U.S. citizen, are not in prison or on parole for conviction of a felony, or have not been ruled mentally incompetent to vote by the courts.
In El Dorado County District 5, which encompasses the south shore, there are currently 17,702 registered voters. Just 33.7% of those that were registered actually voted in the June primary. In that race it was proof that every vote counts since there were just 12 votes separating 2nd and 4th place.
With 12,000 teens turning 18 every day, Rock the Vote has become an important mechanism in getting millennials registered to vote. Of course, anyone can register to vote on their site, located on line here, but they've been using rock stars to attract the younger voters.
On line voter registration is also available here at registertovote.org as well at registertovote.ca.gov.
People can also register to vote at the South Lake Tahoe DMV, located at 3344 Lake Tahoe Blvd, as well as any other state agency.
Potential voters were also able to register at Thursday's candidate forum at LTCC.
