Woman and juvenile identified as victims in deadly SR-88 crash

An 80-year-old woman and her great-granddaughter died on Wednesday, October 18 after being hit by a cement mixer truck at the intersection of SR-88 and Centerville Lane.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), their preliminary investigation shows Beverly Louise Phillips, 80, of Gardnerville, was driving her 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV eastbound on Centerville Lane with the juvenile passenger at approximately 3:21 p.m. At the same time, a red 2005 Kenworth cement mixer truck was traveling northbound on SR88 approaching the intersection with Centerville Lane. Phillips pulled out to cross SR-88. The driver of the cement truck applied his brakes and attempted to avoid the SUV, but was unable to avoid a collision, causing the front of the truck to strike the right side of the SUV.

The juvenile passenger in the Suzuki succumbed to the injuries sustained from the crash at the scene. The driver was transported by CareFlight to a Reno Hospital, but later succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the crash.
