Grand opening for Douglas County Community and Senior Center

Event Date:
December 6, 2014 - 1:00pm

A brand new, 83,225 sq ft community and senior center will be unveiled December 6. The $16.9 million center was expected to open in February, 2015 but construction is ahead of schedule.

Billed as something to serve the community from cradle to grave, the Douglas County Community and Senior Center located across the street from Lampe Park in Gardnerville, NV will have a senior center with a dining room for 300 people, administrative offices, senior day care, health nurse office, preschool, activity rooms, fitness and workout areas and gymnasiums.

This new center is the largest public works project for Douglas County. The sprawling center at Herbig Park will provide services for residents from one location.

During construction, Scott Morgan, County Community Services/Parks and Recreation Director for the County and other employees and committee members toured the 19-acre site often.

“Everything we learned building the Kahle Community Center, we’ve put into practice here,” Morgan said as he led a tour Wednesday. “Only this is three times bigger. It’s Kahle on steroids.”

There will be a grand opening on December 6 at 1 p.m. There will be commemorative gifts for the first 1,800 people, free hot dogs & soda, and center tours until 5:30 p.m. People are encouraged to attend the Parade of Lights immediately following the grand opening.
