"Always Buddy" tent set up at SnowGlobe in memory of Alyssa Byrne

It's been three years since 19-year-old Alyssa Byrne from Petaluma, Calif., died after attending New Year's Eve SnowGlobe Music Festival becoming separated from her friends. Her body was found off Pioneer Trail between Black Bart Avenue and Al Tahoe Boulevard on January 4, 2013.

For the third year in a row there is the "Always Buddy" tent set up at SnowGlobe in Alyssa's memory. Pledges have been signed over the past by concert goers promising to watch out for their friends.

Alyssa's parents, Kevin and Kim Byrne, are in South Lake Tahoe this week for the music festival, spreading the word that if go to a new place or party as a group, you need come back as a group. That cause, along with a message about the dangers of drugs, has been a mission for the Byrnes since their daughter's death.

Working with Leandra and Paul Hale, owners of the Butter Muffin in South Lake Tahoe, the tent has been set up and is stocked with donations of hot coffee, cocoa and water, along with a large heater.

"They gave us a much bigger tent this year," said Leandra.

The "Always Buddy" tent is also in a more prominent place, just outside the will call ticket tent on the Lake Tahoe Community Campus grounds.

THe Hales said they could always use more donations, especially water. There were a few dozen cases of water for the first night of the festival, but it is used as in year's past, they will be gone by the second night. Donations can be dropped off at the Butter Muffin located at the corner of Lake Tahoe and Sierra Boulevards or at the tent prior to the start of the concert each day.
