Fun for whole family at Trick & Retreat on Halloween

Ghouls, goblins, princesses, super heroes and all other trick-or-treaters are invited to head over to the Tahoe Beach Retreat and Lodge for "Trick & Retreat" on Tuesday, October 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The South Lake Tahoe hotel is providing a safe and fun environment for their annual Halloween party. Businesses come together and decorate rooms for kids to visit and get their treats. There will also be a bounce house, music, s'more making and more.

This event is free to the public and not only are little goblins but so are furry ones since they are pet-friendly.

Blue Ribbon Award nominees announced

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce (Tahoe Chamber) is holding their annual Blue Ribbon Awards dinner on Thursday, November 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Harrah's Lake Tahoe Ballroom. This gala event honors businesses, organizations, and individuals for civic contributions, tourism experiences, customer service, and entrepreneurial achievements. Tickets for the award ceremony are currently available online at www.TahoeChamber.org.

Free bus passes for LTCC students, Ridge Tahoe and Heavenly employees

The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) Board of Directors approved several funding agreements with local entities Friday which will provide free rides for several groups including Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) students, employees and guests of the Ridge Tahoe and associated properties, as well as Heavenly Mountain Resort employees.

The agreement between TTD and Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) to allow current students with a valid Lake Tahoe Community College identification card to ride all local transit services at no charge during the academic year ending June 30, 2018.

New restaurant, pavilion and dock for Round Hill Pines resort

A new dock, breakwater, restaurant and beach pavilion will all be in place for the 2018 summer season at the Round Hill Pines Resort.

With demolition of the old structure nearly complete, work started last week on a new 3,000-square-foot facility overlooking the beach.

The new building will house a full commercial kitchen, retail space, restrooms, offices for the resort’s management and sales staff, and storage. The seating for the summer bar and grill will be in an open-air pavilion with retractable awnings.

Boys & Girls Club's 24th annual Golf Classic at Edgewood Tahoe

Working the serving line at Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on September 25th were members of the Tahoe Douglas Elk Lodge #2670. J.J. Clause, Steve Kurek, Jim Plamenig and Gary Wendt came prepared to represent their fellow Elk Lodge members at the organization’s Adopt of Day of Nourishment and this enthusiastic group did a fine job hosting the 94 dinner guests who arrived at St. Theresa Grace Hall for the evening’s meal.

“So gratifying to see the hungry being fed,” said Steve. “We feel lucky to be able to help.”

Water main break near Stateline causes traffic issues

Crews are still at the scene of a broken water main tonight at the state line. A 12" water main pipe under ground burst at the crosswalk between Harrah's and Harveys. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded to help turn off valves as did transportation workers.

The pipe carries water for the Edgewood Water Company, the supplies to all of the casinos and golf course.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. Saturday, water was flowing down Highway 50, flooding the street near Marriott Timber Lodge.

Food Fest to raise funds for South Lake Tahoe schools

Its time for the Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation's Food Fest on Saturday, October 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Hard Rock Tahoe Hotel and casino. This fundraiser raises funds for grants to support enrichment programs for the Lake Tahoe Unified School District.

Also a fun time, this year's Food Fest has a new twist, Silent Disco! Event goers can check out a headset tuned to the one of three varieties of music allowing everyone to dance to their own preferred tunes while letting conversations flow among the rest of the crowd.

TRPA announces top 15 Best in the Basin awards

he Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) on Wednesday recognized 15 exceptional projects completed in 2016 with Best in Basin awards.

Now in its 27th year, TRPA’s Best in Basin awards program each year showcases projects around the lake that demonstrate exceptional planning, implementation, and compatibility with Tahoe’s natural environment and communities.

Trail, trees and peak named after Martin Hollay at Heavenly Mountain Resort

Not many can boast of skiing the mountains around Lake Tahoe for six decades, but Martin Hollay of South Lake Tahoe can do just that and he's not done yet.

At a very young 96-years-old (he turns 97 this fall), Hollay's contributions to Heavenly Mountain Resort were recognized Monday as the ski resort dedicated Martin's Hiking Trail, Martin's Trees and a granite peak near Maggie's Run in the name of their former employee and ski patrolman.

A fundraiser will be held in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, September 9 for long-time local Bill Horning. The South Tahoe High graduate has had some recent major medical issues but is on the road to recovery.

Horning has spent the last 35 years playing Santa Claus for the community at events such as the Barton Foundation Festival of Trees. He not only worked at the High Sierra and MontBleu, and most recently the Marriott, but has also been a coordinator with Bread and Broth and Second Serving.

Longest Day of Golf nets SLT Cancer League over $9,400

Each year the Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe (Loyal Order of Moose #1632) hosts the Longest Day of Golf at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course to raise funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League and today they celebrated their effors, $9,462. Since 2006, golfers in the day long event have raised $125,328.82 for the non-profit to use towards transportation and grants for local cancer patients.

Residents forced to evacuate as fire in Yosemite grows

8/20 update: The fire grew minimally yesterday as thunderstorms skirted the perimeter. 3,191 acres have now burned and the fire is at 10 percent contained. Mandatory evacuations will remain in place in Wawona for the area east of Highway 41 on Forest Dr. and Chilnualna Falls Rd.

Labor Day weekend in Lake Tahoe full of activities to replace fireworks

With the cancellation of the 19-year long tradition of fireworks over Labor Day in South Lake Tahoe due to budget constraints, the Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority and other local businesses have pulled together to present a full menu of things to do on the South Shore from a laser light show to concerts and a carnival.

Tahoe Arts Project to hold annual Music on the Beach

Grab your friends and a good bottle of wine and head to the beach to enjoy good music, a beautiful sunset and raise funds for the Tahoe Arts Project on Thursday, August 24 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Trey Stone, Niall McGuiness and John Shipley will once again perform on the beach at Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge in South Lake Tahoe as the community dances, sits back in their beach chairs, sip wine and enjoy friends.

The suggested donation is $10 for the evening and all proceeds go to Tahoe Arts Project. There will also be a raffle and some desserts for sale.

The Tahoe Douglas Elk Lodge #2670, an on-going supporter of the Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment program, hosted Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on June 12. The Elk Lodge is a service organization whose members work together on national and local levels to help the needy through community service. The Tahoe Douglas Elk Lodge exemplifies their mission through the many serve projects they perform for the South Lake Tahoe community and the Bread & Broth organization.

The Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe - "A hole in one experience"

The Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe was a vision that began 25 years ago when the late Brooks Park and now General Manager Bobby King were talking about a complete experience for golfers who could also stay after a round of golf.

Park's grandfather David bought 571 acres of pastureland at Lake Tahoe in 1896. The property included the historic Friday's Station where the family operated it as a way station and butcher's shop for those crossing the terrain from 19818-20.

California Tahoe Conservancy gives over $400k to West Shore forest health

LAKE TAHOE - The California Tahoe Conservancy Board today authorized $414,074 to the California Department of Parks and Recreation for projects that improve forest health and reduce the risk of wildfire at Tahoe State Recreation Area and Ed Z’Berg Sugar Pine Point State Park. The funding is the first allocation of more than $6.8 million in Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act funds awarded to the Conservancy at last year’s Presidential Summit.

$100 million later, Edgewood Lodge opens to the public

They broke ground on the new Edgewood Lodge at the south shore of Lake Tahoe in October of 2015, but plans and environmental improvements began years before that in preparation for the new 169,000 square-foot hotel and spa with dining, shopping and adventures options along with 154 rooms.

Appeal to the Bijou Park Creek Marketplace withdrawn

The City of South Lake Tahoe is pleased to announce the appeal of the Planning Commission’s approval of the Mitigated Negative Declaration of the Bijou Park Creek Marketplace (former Knights Inn) project has been withdrawn. The City appreciates the Appellant’s admission of the project’s benefits to the environment and her disclaim of the appeal.

Three fires burning south of Lake Tahoe

9:30 p.m. update - Highway 395 has reopened in both directions after firefighters got the upper hand on the Topaz Fire which burned 8 acres between Topaz Lake and the highway near Topaz Lodge. One outbuilding burned. 4 engines will remain on the fire overnight. No containment has been listed at this time. Jurisdiction is East Fork Fire Protection District.

SMUD planning to expand cloud seeding over the Sierra

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is planning to more than double their current cloud seeding program over the American River watershed from the current 190 square miles to 444 square miles.

Since 1968, SMUD has been involved in the practice of cloud seeding in El Dorado, Amador, and Placer counties to benefit electricity generation in the Upper American River Project (UARP) in Eldorado National Forest.

TAMBA kicks off the cycling season with party

They will vie for the coveted jersey during the four-day race. After Lake Tahoe they head to Elk Grove on May 13, and the finale in Sacramento on MMay 14.

Earth Day Community Cleanup in South Lake Tahoe

Celebrate Earth Day with a Community Cleanup on Wednesday, April 19 from 9:00 a.m. to noon in South Lake Tahoe.

During the snow melt, trash becomes exposed and needs to be picked it up. Help the League to Save Lake Tahoe celebrate Earth Month and join in for a cleanup. They will provide cleanup materials and a prize. Bring your reusable water bottle and friends.

The clean up event is in partnership with Azul Latin Kitchen, Basecamp Pizza, California Burger Company, Marriott Grand Residence Club, Marriott Timber Lodge, Patagonia at Heavenly and South Tahoe Refuse.
