Lake Tahoe's East Shore Trail now has new interpretive features
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/14/2020 - 12:25pmINCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The Tahoe East shore Trail has become an interpretive trail after 23 new educational signs were installed thanks to funds from the NV Energy Foundation. The signs provide information on regional history, the environment, and local wildlife.
The popular trail runs between Incline Village and Sand Harbor State Park with parking on SR28 at Tunnel Creek in Incline.
Lake Tahoe Basin, El Dorado County and Sierra roadwork schedule for May 11-16

LONG-TERM PROJECTS
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $5.2 million project to upgrade metal beam guardrail and construct concrete barriers at 89 locations from the Red Hawk Undercrossing to 1.9 miles west of the junction with State Route 89 in Meyers. Completion is expected in late spring 2020. No traffic-interfering work is scheduled.

Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra's virtual Elegant Evening a success
Submitted by paula on Tue, 04/21/2020 - 10:04amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Many nonprofits have had to cancel their fundraisers due to the coronavirus, but the ladies of the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) club in South Lake Tahoe weren't going to let the virus stop them.
Their 31t annual Elegant Evening was slated to be held at Harrah's Tahoe on April 18 with a sit-down dinner, live music, and dancing, raffle, and auction. The venue closed and restrictions on meeting in groups of over 10 people were created, so what do you do with an event that brings together 500 community members?
Move it online, of course.

They have donated money as well as started a program to go grocery shopping for the elderly in their district or for those unable to get to the store due to coronavirus impacts.
Last week members of the district's foundation presented a check for $1,000 to Bread & Broth to help supply food to those in the community who are impacted by layoffs due to the coronavirus.
Alpine County has first confirmed case of COVID-19

The individual is recovering at home and was never hospitalized.
Alpine County is located south of Lake Tahoe, has a population of 1,120 and is 743 square miles in size and includes Markleeville and Bear Valley.
An investigation has determined the person was exposed and acquired the infection in a location distant from Alpine County. This person and their household "have

Multiple accidents, heavy snow, reported on Lake Tahoe and Sierra roadways

As of 5:00 p.m. Saturday, law enforcement and rescue teams have responded to a reported head-on collision on Pioneer Trail, west of Golden Bear, a collision on Pioneer Trail and US 50 in Meyers, a collision on US 50 at Kyburz, a car off the roadway on SR89 near Emerald Bay and two collisions on US88 near Kirkwood. There are also numerous collisions on I80 and on the North Shore.
New city manager selected for South Lake Tahoe

Irvin was one of four final candidates for the position that met with the community on Monday, giving them a chance to do their own interviews, ask questions, and fill out a questionnaire on their choices.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The annual Tahoe Chamber Business EXPO will be held on Friday, May 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Harrah's Tahoe. It was originally scheduled for March 27 but postponed due to coronavirus concerns.
South Lake Tahoe City Council narrows down list of city manager candidates to four

The names of the four candidates will be released later this week according to the SLT Communications Manager Chris Fiore.
The public is invited to a reception with the finalists on Monday, March 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Idle Hour, 3351 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
Final interviews will be held in closed session following the Council's March 10 meeting.

New digital billboard up to help combat trash in Lake Tahoe

While hundred of visitors snapped selfies with the bear, others mingled with him as he reminded all to throw away their broken sleds, rather than leaving them littered on the snow.
To coincide with the bear visits, a new billboard went up in Folsom, California with the same message.

Meyers vehicle break-ins: Lock your car doors to keep both bears and criminals away

On the evening of January 20, a homeowner reported seeing three suspicious people on her surveillance camera attempting to open her vehicle door. Deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) responded and found two vehicles that appeared to have been rummaged through. These two vehicles had items taken from them with no signs of forced entry.

Everett was born at the hospital's Family Birthing Center to Robert Haen and Shaina Willen, MD. He weighed six pounds 15 ounces and measured 19.5 inches long.

South Lake Tahoe City Council selects candidate for interim city manager
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/27/2019 - 3:38pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - During their closed session meeting today, the South Lake Tahoe City Council selected a preferred candidate to take on the duties of an interim city manager.
When the meeting ended at 1:20 p.m., Council announced no reportable action but they did want to update the community on the status of their conversation. South Lake Tahoe Mayor Jason Collin said they directed staff to begin negotiations with the candidate.
The name of that candidate is not being released at this time.
Closed session meeting to discuss hiring interim city manager for South Lake Tahoe

Current City Manager Frank Rush gave his notice to the Council on November 26 after accepting a position in Big Bear Lake, Calif. His last day with the City will be on January 24, 2020.

All of the trees are beautiful and it was a tough decision by a group of community judges to come up with winners of five distinguished categories.

It started on November 7, 2018. Ricky Reich, a local man who has become known as "The Angel of Tahoe's Guardian," walked into the studios of KRLT-FM on Kingsbury Grade in Stateline, Nevada. He had been listening to Howie Nave's Morning Rush shown on the station and wanted to pay homage to Lisa Maloff, the Angel of Tahoe.

Several filmmakers introduce their works. The event is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy almost thirty films and interact with other film aficionados.
All proceeds from the festival, which runs on the North Shore from December 5-8, go to support educational programs at the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center.
South Lake Tahoe city manager resigns, takes new position in Big Bear Lake

Rush was sworn in as the City of South Lake Tahoe city manager on December 6, 2018, and will be leaving on January 24, starting in Big Bear Lake on February 3, 2020. Their City Council approved him during their meeting on Monday.

Public gives input on proposed changes to USFS snowmobile/winter travel plan
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/15/2019 - 1:24amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - When the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) revised their Forest Plan over 10 years ago, many wanted them to include changes to snowmobile and other winter travel access to public lands at the same time. With the amount of public comment and the recognized need to have its own plan, they separated the two.
In 2011, LTBMU started a collaborative group to develop a proposed action plan for Winter Recreation and Over Snow Vehicle (OSV) use in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Open Houses on proposed snowmobile/winter recreation access around Lake Tahoe

That document outlined changes to snowmobile access in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

New snowmobile access proposed for parts of Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/24/2019 - 12:53pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) has released the "Proposed Action for the Winter Recreation and Over Snow Vehicle (OSV) Travel Management Project," and in that document are changes to snowmobile access in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
They have proposed to open OSV use (snowmobiles) to areas around the lake that have been restricted in the past and close up other areas. The plan still leaves about 50 percent of the lands managed by LTBMU open to OSV use.
