Craig A. Schmidt, the current Executive Director of Chamber of Commerce in Mammoth Lakes, will take over his new position on the South Shore February 6.
The Chamber's Board selected Schmidt, an accomplished chamber professional with 22 years of experience in business, workforce and tourism development.

The sixth annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show will be held April 28-29, 2017 in the South Tahoe Middle School multipurpose room.
Space is being increased to allow more vendors from the region to participate in the only event of its type on the South Shore. A free children's planting area is also being added to the two day show that runs from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m on Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m on Saturday.

Judging of the decorated trees also took place. A team of local media, chamber members and educators viewed the trees and judged them on criteria including elegance, theme and creativity.
The Best of Show and Best Interpretation of Theme awards went to "Woodland Queen."

Meeting held to help local employers with new federal overtime rule

A new federal law goes into effect on December 1 that entitles salaried employees to get overtime pay if they make less than $47,476 per year. To help people understand this change they are holding a lunchtime workshop on Wednesday, November 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Tahoe Mountain Lab.
According to the White House, an estimated 4.2 million white collar workers will become entitled to overtime pay when they work extra hours as a result of the new rule, and wages for workers will increase by $12 billion over the next 10 years.

Caltrans holds second public meeting on their Echo Summit Sidehill Viaduct project

When travelers come to Lake Tahoe they don't see a state line, or a direction on the compass, they see a beautiful recreational paradise that just a few people are able to call home, but millions can call a vacation destination.

Stump speeches and meeting candidates via a speed-dating format will give voters in the South Lake Tahoe area a way to get to know their future elected officials on October 25 at the Lake Tahoe Community College from 5:30 p.m. to 7::45 p.m.
The evening will start out with each candidate for South Lake Tahoe City Council as well as the Lake Tahoe Unified School District, Lake Tahoe Community College and South Tahoe Public Utility District boards, giving a 1.5 minute "stump speech." The Tahoe Chamber Board of Directors unanimously chose the two after a detailed vetting of all ten candidates by their Candidate Endorsement Committee, which was comprised of six community members, including one Chamber board director.

Senate Passes $415 million Lake Tahoe Restoration Act
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/15/2016 - 7:12pmMore money is headed to preserve and restore Lake Tahoe. In Washington Wednesday the U.S. Senate passed its $415 million version of 2015's Lake Tahoe Restoration Act by a vote of 95-3.
The money for Lake Tahoe is part of the $10 billion Water Resources Development Act of 2016.
This is the first time the funding legislation to reauthorize the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act has cleared the full Senate even though its has succeeded at the committee level several times.

Generation Green teens build new boardwalk at Taylor Creek

The 100 foot boardwalk replaces an often flooded path around the popular stream profile chamber, a path further weakened by beavers boring underneath what used to be full of asphalt.

In a letter to City Clerk Susie Alessi, it was officially stated that if elected I would not accept the recently doubled Council salary of almost $1,000 per month. Being a fiscal conservative, I feel being careful with taxpayer dollars should start with me.

The South Tahoe Chamber will be holding their annual golf tournament at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course on Tuesday, August 23. Registration will start at 7:30 a.m., shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. This is a player scramble/best ball format.
Entry fee is $95 and covers the player's green fees, cart, range balls, awards luncheon and contests. The theme is pirates and everyone is invited to decorate their carts and come dressed in their favorite pirate finery.

Community advocate named Tahoe Chamber Interim CEO

Chamber Board Chair Mike McLaughlin announced the Board’s appointment of Teshara in a statement released July 21.
“Our Board is extremely pleased Steve has agreed to step in to support the Chamber’s mission, membership, and community engagement while we seek a new CEO to move the organization into 2017 and beyond,” said McLaughlin. “Steve adds a unique blend of experiences and accomplishments to our dedicated Chamber staff.”
