4th Annual Tahoe South Restaurant Week Sept. 16-23

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority will continue supporting Tahoe South Restaurant Week in an effort to connect visitors and locals with the South Shore culinary scene, Sept. 16-23, 2016. In partnership with Tahoe Chamber and the newly formed Restaurant Industry Group, Restaurant Week will align efforts with Sample the Sierra, the popular farm-to-fork festival.

Gorman leaves Tahoe Chamber to pursue new business

She's been a Regional Director with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, PR and Marketing with Kautz Irontstone Vineyards and Banquet and Conference Manager at Copper Mountain Resort. She earned a Doctor of Law degree, and, for what most in South Lake Tahoe know her as, she's been the Executive Director of the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce. As of today, she's left the Chamber and is now preparing for a new career in coaching, leadership and training.

Former SLT City Manager heads to same job in Avalon

Former South Lake Tahoe City Manager David Jinkens is headed south to the city of Avalon to take on the same position for that city on Santa Catalina Island, one that he held in the 1980s.

Jinkens was the SLT City Manager from August 2002 until August 2010 when he retired after 35 year of service as a City CEO. Now, he's headed back to where he and wife Terri lived and worked when they were first married.

Major restoration project planned for Taylor and Tallac Creek area

The U.S. Forest Service is planning a project to restore the Taylor and Tallac creek ecosystems, an area that provides habitat for numerous protected wildlife speciesfas well as being an important hydrological connection to Lake Tahoe.

Named the Taylor and Tallac Restoration Project, the USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will restore the large wetland complex where the two creeks were once connected through a series of four swales.

Public comment is sought on the Environmental Assessment, Initial Study and Initial Environmental Checklist.

Jamba Juice to celebrate remodel with ribbon-cutting

Attorney known for plethora of ADA lawsuits making rounds in South Lake Tahoe

A Sacramento area lawyer called the "Serial ADA lawsuit filer" by the San Jose Mercury News is back in South Lake Tahoe according to several recent reports from local businesses.

Between 2009-11, Carmichael attorney Scott Johnson inundated small businesses with letters requesting they bring buildings in line with access laws for the disabled. He followed up the letters with several lawsuits in South Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Mountain Lab provides unique work situation

While the official grand opening isn't until May 26, the doors have opened and office spaces are filling up at the new Tahoe Mountain Lab in South Lake Tahoe. What was once the Tahoe Daily Tribune offices on Lake Tahoe Blvd. is now home to 24 private offices, shared work spaces, tables and desks as well as the local paper's new office.

Summit held to build successful businesses and employees

Over 100 people attended the Make Tahoe Work For You Leadership Lake Tahoe Summit on May 6 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. The one-day Summit, featuring inspiring sessions for individuals and business owners, provided Lake Tahoe residents with tools to make Tahoe a viable place to succeed, both personally and professionally. El Dorado County Supervisor Sue Novasel will speak to the South Tahoe Chamber on Monday, April 18 during a special meeting that begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Catina Restaurant.

Novasel represents District 5 which includes South Lake Tahoe, Meyers and Tahoma.

The meeting is open to Chamber members and the public.

Sue will begin speaking at about 6:30 p.m. after some Chamber business is conducted. There will be a question and answer period moderated by the Chamber Board President in order to get as many questions answered as possible.

Stand up paddle shop moving into old winery with new wine and coffee bar

It was down to the 11th hour, Chris Brackett had to be out of his South Tahoe Stand Up Paddle location and had no place to go with all of his boards. He was in the same situation as Rude Brothers, the bagel and coffee shop that shared the same location. With the building sold and all tenants given notice to move, both businesses needed to relocate.

Tahoe Prospertiy Center awarded for collaborative efforts

The Tahoe Prosperity Center received an award on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from the Placer County Economic Development Board for “Best Collaboration to Encourage a Prosperous, Sustainable and Healthy Lake Tahoe Basin.”

Certificates of recognition were also presented to the Tahoe Prosperity Center from Assemblywoman Beth Gaines, Senators Ted Gaines and Jim Nelson, and Congressma=en Tom McClintock and Douglas LaMalfa.

Historic Nevada State Prison to open for tours

The public will soon be able to tour the historic Nevada State Prison in Carson City. Opened in 1862, the prison opened on the site of the Warm Springs Hotel even before the territory became a state. The prison's quarry supplied the materials needed to build the State Capitol.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce 2016 Leadership Class will offer the prison tours as a fundraiser from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16.

With the legalization of gaming in Nevada, the prison allowed inmates to gamble in the Bull Pen, a casino that was set up in 1932 and closed in 1967.

Tahoe Chamber moves Sample the Sierra event to September 17

Column: Community collaborates to bridge workforce issues

Daylight savings time - Don't forget to change your clocks

Spring forward, fall back.

But why?

The reason the United States and many other countries, mostly in the West, shift to daylight saving time is contentious and confusing, and some of the more popular explanations are not grounded in reality. (It isn’t for farmers, as you may have learned in school.)

The general concept is to move an hour of sunlight from the early morning, when many would sleep through it, to the evening, when you could most likely do more with the light.

South Shore Business Walk March 15-16 to survey employer needs

Volunteers will be canvassing the community from Meyers to Round Hill this week to assess the employment needs of local businesses including their current employment situation, determine future needs, and ensure Tahoe can attract and retain talented workers for a variety of occupations.

Between 2003 and 2013, Lake Tahoe experienced a steady decline in jobs, with 5,500 jobs lost. Since then, there are several factors affecting the prosperity and sustainability of both the current and future workforce and economy.

Deadline approaching to get booth space for Tahoe Chamber Business Expo

The annual Tahoe Chamber Business Expo will be held at Harvey's Convention Center on April 1, but time is closing in on signing up for the last 20 available booth spaces.

The 2016 Expo is the South Shore’s largest business and networking experience produced by Tahoe Chamber and it showcases businesses and their products, programs and services to over 1,500 attendees.

El Dorado County wants input from local business owners

For the first time in seven years, those owning businesses in El Dorado County are being asked to take a survey to help enhance the economic climate for both employees and employers in the County.

Dr. Chris Pavich, who was born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, has returned to his hometown to open Kingsbury Chiropractic.

After attending the University of Nevada, Reno and earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life West Chiropractic College, Dr. Pavich opened his office located at 276 Kingsbury Grade #1050 in Stateline.

Pavich is the grandson of Sierra Ski Ranch founder Vern Sprock.

Vendors are now being accepting for the annual Home and Garden Show held in South Lake Tahoe will be held April 22-23, 2016 at the Recreation Complex. For those that sign up before January 29, a large early bird discount is available.
