LAKE TAHOE, CA/NV - The winter job fair, Tahoe Works, will be held on October 18 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at MontBleu Resort. This hiring event puts the South Shore's employers in touch with those looking for jobs, all under one roof.

November ballot filling up: Nine candidates for South Lake Tahoe City Council

Nine South Lake Tahoe residents have qualified to run in November and thrown in their hats for three open seats on City Council.

The three incumbents, Mayor Wendy David, Mayor Pro Tem Tom Davis and Councilman Austin Sass will all be running for reelection. They will be joined by some veterans of local politics as well as newcomers.

Letter: STPUD updates from board member and candidate Duane Wallace

Everyone knows what goes downhill, but the South Tahoe Public Utility District knows how to recycle it into 381,000 kilowatts of electricity per year. A recent feature article by the Association of California Water Agencies pointed out that STPUD is one of only a handful of utility districts in the entire world that can claim 100% reuse of wastewater and bio solids. Here’s how. We use centrifuges instead of the usual pollution causing burners. That allows us to make fertilizer for ranch land.

Steve Teshara named president of California Association of Councils of Governments

Steve Teshara, CEO of the Tahoe Chamber and chairperson of the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) Board of Directors, now has another leadership duty for the upcoming year.

Teshara will serve as the president of the California Association of Councils of Governments (CALCOG), a group whose membership includes 47 regional governments involved in the planning, funding, and development of the state’s transportation infrastructure.

He has been representing TTD on the CALCOG Board.

USFS holds grand opening of the new Round Hill Pines Beach Resort

The U.S. Forest Service held a grand opening ceremony at the newly remodeled and reconfigured Round Hill Pines Resort on Monday, officially welcoming the public to their new beachside facilities.

Delaware Sand Filter being installed on US50 in South Lake Tahoe

Many have wondered about the structure being built near the Upper Truckee Bridge at US50 and River Drive in South Lake Tahoe. It's tall framing from two weeks ago has become a system of steel, cement, sand and is an in-line facility for stormwater collection and treatment.

This system, called a Delaware sand filter, stands alone and requires no pond or pretreatment. There was a like filter system installed at US50 and Rufus Allen Boulevard a couple of years ago. It has been found to be effective in removing common pollutants from stormwater drain off.

Lake Tahoe AleWorX will celebrate the grand opening of its Stateline Taproom on Thursday, June 28, beginning at 6:00 p.m. This it the second location for AleWorX and owner Luca Genasci and the taproom features self-serve beer and wine, wood-fired pizza, a full bar highlighting a selection of craft cocktails and live music on the patio.

Big changes for Wye in North Lake Tahoe as iconic features removed

There are still trout in the Lake Tahoe Basin, but soon there will no longer the large trout sculpture that for years has greeting people to the town of North Lake Tahoe.

The iconic 21-foot trout sculpture has been sitting in the island intersection between State Route 89 and State Route 28 along with the Williamson Tree and Rotary Club flagpole.

Food trucks, VHRs, new interim city manager all part of SLT City Council meeting

The South Lake Tahoe City Council will take a look at vacation home rental (VHR) fines at their meeting on Tuesday, May 15. In a story that has had national attention, the $1,000 fines for violations of parking, noise and other ordinances for each the renter and homeowner have become the spotlight.

Council will look at the fines and rules for parking and bear boxes, and the fact that both renter and homeowners are fined for each instance.

Celebration of Life for Jean Gurney

Jean was born on May 31, 1945 in Longview, Texas, to Viola and Frank Gurney. She spent her formative years in Massachusetts with her parents and sister Ann, and graduated from Minnechaug Regional High School in 1963.

Building issues force LTVA out of their South Lake Tahoe office

The California office of Lake Tahoe Visitor's Authority (LTVA) has been closed due to roof and flooding issues, with all of their operations in their Stateline office, for now.

Last year's flooding caused LTVA to rip out the carpet in the back of the building which was the first county jail at the lake, opening in 1947. Three staff executives who had their offices at the rear of the building were moved to the front.

Opinion: May take years to recover from negative national VHR news

We recently received talking points from a local public relation firm relating to how we could handle the adverse publicity which occurred due to the CBS morning show about the draconian VHR ordinance and subsequent $1000 fine enforcements. We, as property managers and owners, have been requesting support from the Chamber of Commerce, LTVA, and the Lodging Association in helping us fight the selfish attitudes of some locals regarding their entitlement to Lake Tahoe without visitors to their neighborhoods.

South Lake Tahoe community group attempts to get new initiative on the ballot

The "South Lake Tahoe Vacation Home Rentals Restrictions Initiative" may be added to the ballot in November should proponents get enough signatures to put it there.

Created by the Sustainable Community Alliance (SCA), a group in South Lake Tahoe, the initiative is giving voters another chance to voice their opinion about vacation home rentals (VHRs) and should be on the ballot along with another initiative that wants to ban VHRs.

STPUD receives second award for transparency

South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) has been awarded the District Transparency Certificate of Excellence through California Special District’s Association. The certificate is good for two years and is the second consecutive time STPUD has been issued one.

LimeBike to expand to use of scooters in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe was the first city in California to carry the dockless bicycle sharing system, LimeBike, and now the community may soon be seeing the next generation, Lime-S.

At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Sam Dreiman, Manager of Strategic Development for LimeBike, and Jesse Patterson, Deputy Director of the League to Save Lake Tahoe, made a presentation to Council on numbers from 2017 and plans for 2018.

SnowGlobe to stay with modifications to address concerns

SnowGlobe will be returning to South Lake Tahoe in December, 2018, but it will be with some modifications to mitigate sound issues residents have as well as playfield concerns.

A majority of those speaking at Tuesday's City Council meeting said they are for SnowGlobe continuing, but 38 percent of those who spoke us gave a list of concerns they have from the popular three-day festival.

South Tahoe Stand Up Paddle and Sierra-at-Tahoe chosen as Lakeview Commons concessionaires

A passionate, supportive and large crowd backing South Tahoe StandUp Paddle (STSUP) showed up at Tuesday's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting as the Lakeview Commons concessionaires were decided.

By an unanimous vote, the five members of Council voted to approve STSUP for the non-motorized concession going against what the input of staff appointed to review the proposals. Sierra-at-Tahoe was approved for the food and beverage concession by a vote of four-to-one.

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce's annual Connect for a Cause on January 18 had a great turnout from the community, bring in both cash and food donations for Bread and Broth.

Over 100 people attended the charity mixer at Riva Grill and they enjoyed appetizers and Riva Grill’s signature cocktail, Wet Woodies during the event.

Bread and Broth serves the community with weekly food giveaways and two hot meals a week, and their Bread and Broth 4 Kids programs gives over 170 South Lake Tahoe children in grades K-8 a backpack of weekend food.

18th annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski and Snowshoe Celebration

Tahoe Chamber's Connect for a Cause Charity Mixer benefits Bread & Broth 4 Kids

Tahoe Chamber's annual Connect for a Cause charity mixer will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Once again, this year's recipient will be Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K).

Last year, over 100 people attended the event and raised almost $1,300 for the non-profit that serves over 170 kids in grades K-8 weekly with a backpack full of food to take home each when free school lunches are not available.

El Dorado County wins award for economic development

El Dorado County was selected as the "2017 Paving the Way" award by the Greater Sacramento Economic Council (GSEC) einner on December 6. This single award ecognizes a community that has achieved exceptional economic development results during the year.

“For the last 18 months, El Dorado County has developed and executed a strategic approach to economic development in order to elevate the profile of our part of the Greater Sacramento Region,” said Don Ashton, the County’s Chief Administrative Officer.

Douglas County Commissioners to vote on Master Plan update, including housing element

Douglas County Commissioners will be voting on the 20-year update to the Douglas County Master Plan during a special meeting on Tuesday, December 4 at 9:00 a.m. in the Courthouse at 1616 8th Street in Minden.

Tuesday's discussion will focus on the housing element of the plan along with other portions including safety.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A gracious “thank you” to those who participated in the “Faces of Homelessness” on October 26, 2017 at Valhalla, especially our primary event sponsors Temple Bat Yam and the Tahoe Chamber. It was warm inside the great room, with a fire roaring behind our presenters; however, their accounts of being homeless were quite chilling. Six adults and local middle school and high school youth provided touching accounts of their personal stories of homelessness to an audience of strangers.
