The Tahoe Chamber will hold another of their Virtual Town Hall meetings on Friday, July 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This week's guest is Dr. Todd Cutler, Lake Tahoe Unified School District's superintendent.

He will be discussing the latest updates on the operations of the South Lake Tahoe schools and what parents can expect for the fall. A decision on reopening is expected on July 31.

The Tahoe Chamber is hosting another Virtual Town Hall meeting for the South Shore community and business owners. This week El Dorado County's Public Health Officer Dr. Nancy Williams will be their guest.

The meeting is on Friday, July 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The first cannabis dispensary to operate under the new City of South Lake Tahoe rules and regulations is now open.

Embarc Tahoe has opened its doors and held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday with Mayor Jason Collin, Mayor Pro Tem Tamara Wallace, members of the Embarc Tahoe team and the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.

Owner Christy Wilson moved into what was once Tahoe Teriyaki and has since been several different businesses.

The Resilience Fund-Tahoe has funded its first local loan to Freshies Tahoe. The funds helped save their outdoor patio deck, which was in desperate need of repair and will be critical to ensuring their future success serving customers outdoors.

“After many months of unsuccessfully trying multiple federal avenues for support of Freshies during the business disruption caused by the pandemic, we are thrilled to have qualified for this very generous Resilience Fund loan! We are ready to get our deck open! Thank you so much,” said owners Erik and Melodie Ulman.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Eighty-seven small businesses have taken advantage of a special fund created to help them through COVID-19 related challenges.

The City of South Lake Tahoe put $50,000 into the fund and that was combined with other donations managed by the El Dorado Community Foundation. Other partners include the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce, El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce, and many generous local donors.

Businesses in South Lake Tahoe were awarded $65,579.22.

In partnership with Wells Fargo and El Dorado County, the Tahoe Chamber's next Virtual Town Hall will discuss the economic impact of COVID-19 and what a bounce-back could look like. It will be held on Friday, May 29 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

This special Town Hall will feature Christopher Thornberg, a nationally respected economic and revenue forecasting expert and a Founding Partner of Beacon Economics. Dr. Thornberg will provide business owners with a data-driven picture of our economy's future and an opportunity to strategize accordingly.

The Tahoe Chamber has announced the 2020 list of 40 Under 40 honorees. The 40 Under 40 program highlights and honors the South Shore's brightest young community leaders and business professionals’ accomplishments, community involvement, and leadership.

The Tahoe Chamber is inviting the business community to join them on Friday, May 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for another one of their popular Virtual Town Halls. This week, the Sierra Business Council and the Douglas County Vitality manager will discuss and provide guidance on the reopening of business in both California and Nevada and answer the community's questions.

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With Placer County’s local health order expiring May 2, county officials and the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association are reminding would-be-visitors that while they are preparing now for when North Tahoe reopens, that date still depends on the state’s timeline for loosening physical distancing requirements.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In less than 90 days life has changed in South Lake Tahoe, California and the United States. The West caught up quickly to the novel coronavirus pandemic that was first contracted by a human in China on November 17, 2019.

Scientists and doctors pled for the public to stay home to keep the virus from spreading, and that plea worked better in some areas than others.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Barton Hospital is prepared to handle a surge in COVID-19 patients with an extra 150 beds identified for use if needed, and if that supply is used, more space is ready to be used through the help of community partners.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe City Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, April 1 at 9:00 a.m. to address the formation of a South Lake Tahoe COVID-19 Economic Recovery Task Force Subcommittee, a moratorium on commercial evictions, and citations and fines for violations of the State of California's Stay at Home order.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Chamber and City of South Lake Tahoe will hold a virtual Town Hall meeting for businesses on the local response to COVID-19.

Mayor Jason Collin and Tahoe Chamber CEO Steve Teshara will address the City of South Lake Tahoe and the business community’s response to COVID-19 via Zoom on Friday, March 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The public will have a chance to ask questions.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dr. Todd Cutler has been announced as the new superintendent for the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD). During their closed session meeting Saturday, the Board of Trustees decided to reveal their announcement ahead of the previously announced March 10 date. His contract has now been finalized and he will start work at the end of the school year.

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce (Tahoe Chamber) has announced its endorsement of Measure B and Measure M on the March 3rd Primary Election ballot. Both local measures address a well-documented need for investment in new equipment.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The long-discussed 56-acre parcel in the middle of South Lake Tahoe is finally seeing movement again, and both the South Lake Tahoe City Council and El Dorado County Board of Supervisors (BOS) supporting further conversation. A formal agreement between the two is expected later in 2020 with another one-two years of public meetings, consultant review, and planning before plans are implemented. The California Tahoe Conservancy is funding the cost of the consultant, just as they did 30 years ago.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) has opened an office in South Lake Tahoe to better serve the community and they celebrated along with a full crowd at their grand opening reception on Tuesday.

HSTT came to the aid of the South Shore after the former director of the Lake Tahoe Humane Society embezzled almost $60,000. Its members tried to hold the 51-year-old agency together but it disbanded in January of this year, never being able to gain back the trust of the community.

Most people recognize the fact that transportation around Lake Tahoe needs to improve, but with those solutions comes a hefty price tag. Local transportation officials have been meeting with the public through ONE TAHOE to get ideas on how to fund the estimated $3.12 billion regional plans over the next 20 years.

Current public and private funding sources during this period are expected to be about $1.58 billion. This leaves a $1.53 billion shortfall in the transportation funding needed through 2040.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The annual Fall Fish Festival returns to the South Shore on Saturday and Sunday, October 5 and 6, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Celebrate the annual fall migration of the Kokanee salmon at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center on SR-89.

The Fall Fish Festival focuses on a variety of fish species that live in Lake Tahoe and its rivers. In addition to the Kokanee, these species include the federally threatened Lahontan cutthroat trout and little-known smaller fish, such as speckled dace.

The final Chautauqua of the 2019 Festival season will portray Hiram D. Scott, Alpine County, California pioneer, on Sunday, September 22, at 10:00 am.

Hiram Daniel Scott was a ship builder from Pittston, Maine by trade. Initially he settled in Santa Cruz, California in 1847, then followed the Gold Rush when gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill. There he operated a ferry business across the San Joaquin River.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The next public US Highway 50 Main Street Management Plan open house will be held on Tuesday, August 27 at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel Tallac Room from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The event will consist of a series of informational stations where residents can give input on the planning stages of this transformational project. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) are seeking comments as different options for the design of the corridor come into focus.
