Before we gather around the fireplace or stove, remember these important safety tips:
• Have a qualified professional install stoves, chimney connectors, and chimneys.
• Stoves should have the label of an independent testing laboratory.
• In wood stoves, burn only dry, seasoned wood. In pellet stoves, burn only dry, seasoned wood pellets.
Domestic violence can affect children and animals for life
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/17/2015 - 2:16pmA baby’s brain is like a flower, if it’s stressed, it wilts; If the flower is nourished, it blooms.
Those are the telling words used to open the film, Effects of Domestic Violence on Children. As our brains grow, they create a blueprint for every new experience we have, the sounds, the touches and the sights. We may not remember what happens to us as a baby but our experiences are forever etched in our brains and create the building blocks of our lives.

While Halloween may be a spooky night, the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and California Highway Patrol (CHP) want to help ensure that it is also a safe one. If you plan on making alcohol a part of your celebrations this year, designating a sober driver or finding a safe ride home should be a top priority.

Bread & Broth would like to thank the South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge #1632 for their Adopt A Day sponsorship of the Monday, October 12th evening dinner. Thanks to the Moose Lodge’s generous donation, the 91 folks who came for dinner were served baked salmon with orange sauce, spaghetti with red sauce, a mixed green salad, a lovely strawberry/cantaloupe salad and a wide assortment of desserts. Although heaping servings were doled out during the first serving at 4:00 p.m., 27 diners returned for the 5:00 p.m. “second” serving of this tasty and nutritious dinner.
