EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. Calif. - Traffic leaving South lake Tahoe through Meyers on Sundays and holidays through the winter can be a nightmare. Map apps lead visitors onto roads that are steeper and not plowed as much as US50, thus creating hazards and clogged roads. Tow trucks are backlogged hours to assist getting the stuck vehicles off Apache, Mandan, North Upper Truckee and Sawmill Roads.

Due to these jammed roads, residents in the area cannot to get to work or the grocery store, and a Traffic Advisory Committee was formed to seek solutions.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board of Trustees voted unanimously to start the school year August 31 in the first of a four phases - Distance Learning.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there are 24 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, ten of those in the Lake Tahoe area. The remaining 14 new cases are spread out: five are in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, four in El Dorado Hills, two in Placerville, and one each in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, Diamond Springs/El Dorado, and South County. Of these 24, three are under the age of 18, 14 are aged 18-49, two aged 50-64 and five aged 65 and older.

There were 217 tests for the virus given since yesterday, and 193 negative tests were returned.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. _ There is a special meeting of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) on Thursday, July 30 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss and take action on a reopening plan for the 2020-21 school year.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there were another 24 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county since yesterday. Fifteen of those are in the Lake Tahoe region, four in El Dorado Hills, two both Placerville and Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and one in the North County. Three are under the age of 18, 14 aged 18-49, five aged 50-64 and two 65 and over.

This brings the total number of cases since the pandemic started to 579, 209 of those most likely still active.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials are reporting 42 new cases of COVID-19 over the last three days, July 25-27. Of the new cases, 16 are in the Lake Tahoe region, 11 are in El Dorado Hills, eight in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, five in Placerville, and one each in the North County and Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz regions.

Of the 42 new cases, three are under the age of 18, 27 aged 18-49, nine aged 50-64 and three aged 65 and older. Twenty-two are female, 20 are male.

420 tests have been administered since Friday.

It is undeniable that the areas hit the hardest economically by the COVID-19 pandemic are those heavily reliant on tourism. South Lake Tahoe is unquestionably one of these areas, suffering not only because of the closure of its tourist economy but suffering higher infection rates due to the very tourism it relies upon. It is for these reasons that so much of the focus of the El Dorado Community Foundation, who serves all of El Dorado County, has been directed toward South Lake Tahoe. We recognized very early on that South Lake Tahoe would be the hardest hit region in the county.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The following is a list of the long term and short term projects the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has scheduled for the week around Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra and El Dorado County.

LONG-TERM PROJECTS

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A new interactive dashboard is now available for COVID-19 tracking in El Dorado County. The new feature is a more comprehensive dashboard that provides additional data points and opportunity for the public to learn how the COVID-19 virus is impacting the area in both Spanish and English.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials have announced another 22 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 12 of those in the Lake Tahoe region, five in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, four in El Dorado Hills and one in the North County.

Of those new cases, four are under the age of 18, 14 in the 18-49 age group, three aged 50-64, one aged 65 and over.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As confirmed cases continue to rise in El Dorado County, Lake Tahoe Community College announced it will continue to serve as an appointment-only COVID-19 testing center through August 2020. The college’s standalone Physical Education building is the only large-scale COVID-19 active virus testing site in the entire county.

The El Dorado County Food Bank's mobile pantry will be in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, July 22 and they are looking for volunteers to assist with handing out food to the community.

They will be in the parking lot of St. Theresa Church at 1041 Lyons Avenue, South Lake Tahoe from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the public, but need volunteers starting at 9:00 a.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Almost 200 people showed up Saturday to display their support of South Lake Tahoe law enforcement during a rally on a national day to "Bridge the Blue."

The supporters gathered at the entrance to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) and South Lake Tahoe Police buildings before many of them joined a walk down Johnson Boulevard to US50 over to Lakeview Commons and down Al Tahoe, then back to the beginning.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - – El Dorado County today announced the first COVID-19 related death of a resident.

“This morning we received the very sad news that a male over 65 years of age died yesterday of complications from COVID-19,” said County Public Health Officer, Dr. Nancy Williams. “Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends during this very difficult time.”

The man was a resident of the Lake Tahoe region. No further information is being released at this time.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - EL Dorado County health officials report 13 new cases of COVID-19 with 10 in the Lake Tahoe Region, and one in each El Dorado Hills, North County and Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue. Of the new cases, five are male, eight are female, eight are aged 18-49, three aged 50-64 and two are 65 or over.

There have been an estimated ten new recoveries, leaving 174 active cases.

Testing sites were able to conduct 187 new tests.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The popular farm-to-fork festival, Sample the Sierra, is moving to a digital format this year due to the current pandemic.

The 11st annual event will still include a variety of food-related entertainment typically found at Sample the Sierra, including cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, musical performances, giveaways, and shopping. Instead of only having these things during the day of the traditional in-person event, this year's will be spread out throughout August and September (a more detailed schedule is coming later).

The Tahoe Chamber is hosting another Virtual Town Hall meeting for the South Shore community and business owners. This week El Dorado County's Public Health Officer Dr. Nancy Williams will be their guest.

The meeting is on Friday, July 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El DOrado County health officials are reporting another 13 positive cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, July 14. Of those new cases, six are in the Lake Tahoe Region, three in each El Dorado Hills and Placerville, and one in North County. Ten females and three males make up this group with one under the age of 18, five aged 18-49, five aged 50-64 and two aged 65 and older.

305 new tests were conducted with eight recovers and currently 156 active cases.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has ordered all counties in California to close indoor restaurants, bars, movie theaters and wineries as the state combats a surge in coronavirus cases. A list of 30 counties has further restrictions.

"We are moving back into a modification mode of stay at home orders," said Newsom in his Monday press conference. "It's a dimmer switch, not on or off."

He said they are looking at conditions and trendlines, both which are becoming points of concern.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials released new figures, showing 15 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county since yesterday. Seven of those are in the Lake Tahoe Region, three in El Dorado Hills, three in Placerville, and two in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue. Four are under the age of 18, nine aged 18-49, one aged 50-64 and one 65+.

There have been no changes in hospitalizations (3) but there are no longer COVID-19 patients in the ICU. There are currently no suspected cases in the hospital.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The Board of Supervisors held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the current situation of positive cases of COVID-19 in the county, especially in South Lake Tahoe where numbers are starting to grow.

After almost four hours of discussion, both amongst themselves and during public comment, the Board made the following action items but didn't vote on any county-wide orders:

Six more people have recovered, with 129 active cases. There has been no change to hospitalization figures and two remain in the ICU. There is one suspected COVID-19 patient in the ICU.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Lake Tahoe has 17 percent of El Dorado County's population but around half of the confirmed COVID-19 cases. With a steady increase in confirmed cases over the last few weeks combined with the 4th of July influx of visitors, the County's Public Health Officer Dr. Nancy Williams is looking at the possibility of more restrictive measures for businesses and the public.
