Suspect Sought In Elder Abuse of South Lake Tahoe 92 Year Old WWII Veteran

3:56 pm update - The suspect, James Michael Valero, was found walking in the area of Fourth and South Streets and arrested. Officers responded to a citizen's tip and they found Valero.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is seeking an arrest warrant for James Michael Valero on three felony counts and one misdemeanor count following an attack Tuesday night on a 92 year old World War II veteran.

High Speed Chase Starts in Carson City, Ends in South Lake Tahoe

A South Lake Tahoe woman is behind bars on felony charges of evading, assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license after leading officers from several different agencies on a high speed chase from Carson City to South Lake Tahoe on Sunday evening.

Missing Carson Valley Children Located in Washington, Mother Arrested

A national search for a woman and her two children has resulted in the mother's arrest and the return of the children to their father. On December 11, a felony warrant was issued for Kathryn Ann Moore, 44, when she failed to return the children in a court mandated return to their father.

Three Arrested For String of West Slope Burglaries

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department retrieved hundreds of stolen items from a home in Georgetown after investigating a series of burglaries in the towns of Pollock Pines, Camino, Placerville and Georgetown. They arrested three residents of a home after conducting a search of a home following discovery of a stolen car.

Jeri Acuna, a 37 year old woman was arrested for possession of stolen property and a stolen vehicle, Ryann Jana Leidel, a 32 year old female was arrested for two outstanding felony warrants. Parolee Tommie Richard Stover was arrested on two other felony warrants.

National Search on for Missing Carson Valley Children

The search is on for Kathryn Ann Moore, 44 and her two children Patricia Read, 5, and William Moore, 2, after Moore failed to return the children to their father Richard Read of Gardnerville, NV.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, Moore was to be in court to exchange the children with Read on November 21. Attempts to contact Kathryn have been unsuccessful and a recent visit to her home has indicated that she has left with the children.

Chief Probation Officer Appointed for El Dorado County

The County of El Dorado and the Judges of the Superior Court of California, County of El Dorado, are pleased to announce that Brian Richart has accepted appointment as El Dorado County’s new Chief Probation Officer. A unique position under California law, the Chief Probation Officer is appointed by the judges of the Superior Court, with the Board of Supervisors setting the salary and benefit levels. Due to the importance of this position, the Superior Court worked collaboratively with the Sheriff’s Department and county officials to select the best possible candidate.

Raccoon skinning leads to arrest of at-large parolee, registered sex offender

South Lake Tahoe police arrested a man on Monday for allegedly skinning a raccoon after a foot chase ended on the South Tahoe Middle School ball field.

Kevin Burroughs, 37, faces several charges including unlawful taking of wildlife. He is also a parolee and a registered sex offender out of California and had a felony warrant for being a parolee-at-large. The raccoon’s remains were recovered and destroyed by Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care.

South Lake Tahoe man suspected of DUI in crash that injured mother and two children

A 39-year-old South Lake Tahoe man faces a felony DUI charge after a head-on vehicle crash Tuesday that injured a mother and two children in town visiting, according to South Lake Tahoe police.

Dara Siev was arrested for felony DUI and booked into the custody of the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe. The crash was reported at 4:45 p.m. in the 2700 block of Lake Tahoe Boulevard near Blue Lake Avenue. The injuries sustained to the mother and children ages 4 and 8 were reported to be not life-threatening, South Lake Tahoe Police Lt. Brian Williams said.

South Lake Tahoe police alert public of Tier II sex offender

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is alerting the public to a registered sex offender in the area. Wesley Goetz is a Tier II Sex Offender out of Nevada, who lives in Incline Village.

He was convicted in 1998 for Felony Lewdness with a Child under 14, and is on lifetime supervision for his crimes. Goetz must adhere to several special conditions including staying away from areas / businesses which children frequent, and not accessing the Internet without permission.

Goetz is a registered sex offender on lifetime supervision, and isn't on active parole in the State of Nevada.

South Lake Tahoe police arrest armed ex-convict for multiple felonies

A 34-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was jailed Wednesday and faces multiple felony charges including burglary and unlawful weapons possession, South Lake Tahoe police report.

Las Vegas man sent to prison for defrauding South Lake Tahoe investor of $2.9 million

A Las Vegas man was sentenced to 5 years and three months in prison for defrauding a Lake Tahoe investor of more than $2.9 million, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

U.S. District Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. sentenced Jed Baron, 55, of Las Vegas, on Friday, May 10 to prison for wire fraud related to the investment scheme, according to a news release.

Brotherhood motorcycle member arrested for felony weapons, assault crimes, drug paraphernalia

On Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 the SLTPD SWAT team executed high risk search and arrest warrants at 2493 William Avenue, and took 46-year-old Anthony Corbin into custody for several felonies.

Anthony Corbin is a confirmed member of the South Lake Tahoe Brotherhood Motorcycle Club. In mid-March Corbin was identified as the suspect who severely beat a 34-year-old South Lake Tahoe man.

Armed South Lake Tahoe man arrested after allegedly strangling mother

A 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Wednesday and faces felony battery and resisting charges after allegedly strangling his mother until she was unconscious and then eluding police on a bicycle, authorities said.

Skylor Klisch was arrested after South Lake Tahoe police officers caught up with him during a chase in which the man was peddling a bicycle near Lake Tahoe Boulevard. He was found to be in possession of a 22-caliber hand gun with ammunition. The battery happened on Tahoe Island Drive at around 6:30 a.m.

South Lake Tahoe pot club owner sentenced to five years in federal prison; agrees to forfeit drug money

Former City of Angels 2 pot club owner Gennaro "Gino" DiMatteo of South Lake Tahoe was sentenced to 5 years in federal prison Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Kimberly J. Mueller.

DiMatteo had pled guilty to a felony for marijuana trafficking on Jan. 9. As part of his plea agreement, DiMatteo agreed to forfeit more than $40,000 to the United States.

A South Lake Tahoe man, believed to be a gang member, was arrested Sunday for possession of cocaine and domestic violence, South Lake Tahoe police report.

Jesus Rodriguez, 20, was arrested on James Street after officers responded to a residence on Blackwood Avenue regarding domestic battery.

Three arrested in South Lake Tahoe; face weapons, drugs and conspiracy charges

A traffic stop in South Lake Tahoe resulted in the arrest of three suspected felons. The driver was armed with a loaded handgun. Three Markleeville men face multiple felony drug charges after Alpine County authorities found a sophisticated marijuana grow operation inside two levels of a Spring Canyon Drive barn. NHP reports numerous crashes, arrests during Street Vibration events

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports investigating 65 crashes associated with the 2012 Street Vibration motorcycle rally which had riders attending events between Reno, Carson City, Virginia City and Lake Tahoe.
There were no fatalities associated with the annual motorcycle rally, according to NHP. Reno police however, were investigating a Sunday morning fatal crash on Plumb Lane. It is unknown if that was related to the motorcycle rally.

DiMatteo pleads not guilty to drug, bribing elected official charges; wife released

PLACERVILLE – Gino DiMatteo pleaded not guilty Sept. 4 to the drug and bribery charges levied against him, while the charges against his wife, Irene, were dropped. He was formally charged with bribery, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a controlled substance and possession of ammunition. The latter charge has to do with his third-degree felony possession of a handgun conviction from August 1999 in New Jersey that prohibits him from owning or possessing a firearm.

A 25-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested and faces felony burglary and drug charges after a chase Monday that went from South Lake Tahoe across the state line.
Deonte Brown is suspected of stealing, among other things, a 2002 Lexus convertible from a Zephyr Cove home, South Lake Tahoe authorities said. He was booked into Douglas County Jail.

Face animal cruelty charges if you leave your pet inside a hot vehicle

El Dorado County Animal Services is advising pet owners to not leave dogs, cats or other pets unattended in vehicles during warm weather. According to Henry Brzezinski, Chief of Animal Services, if the outside temperature is 80 degrees or higher, temperatures inside vehicles can climb to 120 degrees or more within ten to twenty minutes, even with the windows opened two or three inches; heat stroke, irreparable brain damage and death can follow shortly thereafter.

Man on parole turns himself in to Douglas County authorities

UPDATE: On Wednesday morning, at 6:45 am, parolee absconder Randy Nourse turned himself over to deputies at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Minden Station. Nourse was previously reported as a fugitive from justice by the State of California, Department of Parole and Probation. Nourse was safely taken into custody by Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies without incident.
Nourse will remain in the Douglas County Jail pending his extradition back to California.

Suspect faces charges for string of burglaries at Lake Tahoe since 2007

Washoe County Sheriff's detectives worked a collaborative investigation with the Placer County Sheriff's Office and the Truckee Police Department to serve a search warrant which led to the subsequent arrest of a man who authorities believe may have been involved in a string of burglaries around Lake Tahoe since 2007.

No additional judge in Douglas County East Fork Justice Court

The caseload at the East Fork Township in Douglas County does not require an additional judge at this time, Justice of the Peace Tom Perkins has decided.
The announcement was made public in a news release sent Monday.
State law requires that an additional judge be added to the township when it reaches 34,000 in population. According to Nevada's demographer, the population of East Fork Township is 39,907. In a letter written to the Legislative Counsel Bureau, Judge Perkins said:

The Tri-NET Narcotic Task Force, working in conjunction with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Street Enforcement Team (SET), the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, and the Santa Cruz California Police Department arrested 26 year-old Joseph Perez and 25 year-old Oscar Madriz, both of Santa Cruz, California, on charges of trafficking and sales of cocaine. The arrests were made on March 2.

Douglas County authorities capture Yuba County fugitive; man convicted of sexual assault on a minor

Douglas County authorities have arrested a California fugitive from justice who was convicted of sexual assault on a minor.
Rick David Oliver, 47, of Yuba County, Calif., was captured by Douglas County Sheriff's authorities and the FBI on Friday afternoon after he was located in the 1100 block of Linda Anne Court in the east valley area of Gardnerville, said Douglas County Undersheriff Paul Howell.
The law agencies learned that Oliver was at the location, recently having fled California to avoid sentencing and capture from law enforcement, Howell said.
