Heavenly Holidays wraps up 2016 with a lot of activities, all at either top or the bottom of the Heavenly Gondola in South Lake Tahoe.

Besides the fresh snow and great ski conditions, there are sleigh rides, free outdoor concerts, and the unique gondola ball drop on New Year's Eve with fireworks.

From quality shopping, accommodations, recreation and dining options to the myriad service providers and businesses, the Blue Ribbon Awards honor all that business should be. This important awards program salutes those businesses that are making significant contributions to the South Shore economy.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team is reminding the public that fire danger in the Lake Tahoe Basin remains high due to the ongoing drought and lack of precipitation. Illegal campfires and warming fires continue to be a concern for fire officials and are the major cause of wildfires in the basin. Fire restrictions are still in effect on National Forest land and will remain in effect until the official end of fire season.

Low temperatures Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings could easily dip below freezing around the Lake Tahoe basin and in the Sierra Nevada. Bundle up for Sunday night's fireworks show on the South Shore as temps are forecast to be 48-52 degrees when the show starts at 8:30 p.m.

Keep in mind that temperatures at ground level where plants are located tend to be a few degrees colder than the forecast low air temperature – you may want to cover sensitive garden vegetation.

A fire started after embers from the Virginia City fireworks show landed in nearby brush at about 10:10 p.m., causing the show to end early.

Originally, the Storey County Sheriff reported the fire to be 4.5 acres, but the reports Tuesday morning say one acre. It is now fully contained.

The start of the fireworks show was delayed 30 minutes because of winds in the area according to the Storey County Manager. After the show had been on for 5-10 minutes, the fire started.

No injuries were reported.

Tens of thousands of people will be enjoying the Lights on the Lake fireworks show over Lake Tahoe Monday, most of them unaware of the hundreds of hours of work put into their enjoyment.

"We love out job," said Zambelli Fireworks Western Region Project Manager John Hagan. "We can use explosives to make people happy."

Zambelli is the company hired to produce the 25 minute pyrotechnic show over Lake Tahoe on July 4, starting at 9:45 p.m.

Mountain Resort Television reporter Dillon McKeen meets up with Tahoe Douglas Fire Marshal Eric Guevin to discuss fire safety concerns in regard to this holiday weekend.

The Fourth of July holiday period is the busiest time of year in the Lake Tahoe Basin. For those visiting during the holiday and attending one of the firework displays over the lake, expect extremely crowded conditions and excess traffic. Because of the Basin’s high elevation, expect intense sunlight during the day and much lower temperatures at night. Bring sunscreen, a jacket, and carry a flashlight. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

The company that was hired to produce South Lake Tahoe's world class pyrotechnic exhibition over the lake is a world-renowned company, Fireworks by Grucci.

They have designed and choreographed shows around the world including Dubai, Moscow, Boston Pops 4th of July, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, China, New York, Bahamas and Saudi Arabia. Now they can add Lake Tahoe to that extensive list that has been growing since the family owned company started in 1850 in New York.

Events include Sample the Sierra, The Sternwheeler Races, The +Ironman Triathlon in Lake Tahoe, The Reebook Spartan World championships, +TrailsAndVistas concert and hiking experience, and Oktoberfest 2015.

August is prime time for meteor watching in the northern hemisphere. The Perseid meteor shower reigns king during the warm evenings of midsummer, attracting stargazers to dark sky locations in hope of catching a glimpse of a falling star. This year is especially good since there will be no moon to wash out the celestial fireworks.

An El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy, thinking he heard the sound of fireworks, responded to the area of El Dorado Hills Library on July 4 at about 11:00 p.m. Checking the area of Tilden Drive and Avellano Drive, he found the fireworks sounding like they were coming from a residential backyard. With the assistance of witnesses and Serrano Security, the deputy located several persons lighting and shooting off illegal fireworks from the back of a house in the 3800 block of Tilden Drive.

Well before the fireworks are set off above Lake Tahoe at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, families will be able enjoy a plethora of activities along the South Shore.

The day starts off with the Annual South Lake Tahoe 4th of July Parade at 10 a.m. The procession will start at the SLT Recreation Center, to Highway 50 and down to Cardinale Way past the "Y." It will be over by 11 a.m.

It may seem like lyrics from the Five Man Electrical Band: Sign, sign, everywhere a sign; Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind' Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?

Everyone wants to enjoy the South Lake Tahoe area on the 4th of July holiday weekend. In order to keep everyone safe there are rules and regulations in place to do so.

1. Portable Charcoal Grills Prohibited on All Forest Service Beaches. You can use the limited number of Forest Service provided grills.
2. Campfires are not permitted on National Forest beaches or in the general forest.
