On April 18, 2017 the South Lake Tahoe City Council unanimously passed a resolution to do two things: Power the South Lake Tahoe community with electricity provided from 100 percent renewable sources by 2032; and reduce community carbon emissions from baseline by at least 80 percent by 2040. The 100% Renewable Committee was formed to help the City accomplish these tasks.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Each of the nine candidates for City Council answered the same ten questions that were given to them by South Tahoe Now. For nine consecutive days the candidate's responses will be shared in the order received.

The South Lake Tahoe Community Toy Drive benefiting Christmas Cheer will be held on Saturday, October 6 at the American Legion Hall starting at noon.

A fall tradition in Lake Tahoe, Camp Richardson Historic Resort and Marina’s Oktoberfest returns for its 24th year Oct. 6-7, and it's back with more of everything. More food choices, beverages, and kids’ activities are lined up for the two-day festival that runs 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Entrance and parking for the event are free. All festival tickets for food and beverage booths, pumpkin patch and kids’ inflatable activities must be purchased with cash at the ticket booths.

Family owned and operated Adventure Mountain Lake Tahoe will soon be offering sledding, tubing, and snow fun adventures in the upcoming winter months. In the meantime, Adventure Mountain owners Linda and Jim Mueller sponsored the Bread & Broth Monday Meal on September 10th as a way of offering members of the local community a fun evening of excellent food, social mixing and a welcoming environment.

Fire Fest 2018 will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. outside the Hard Rock Casino Lake Tahoe. Admission is free and it's a great opportunity for families to have fun while learning about fire safety and conservation.

Helicopters will star again this year as they land just outside the venue at the Hard Rock Casino Lake Tahoe. What an incredible opportunity to get a close-up look at these amazing machines. Crews will be on hand to answer questions and explain how they help us when we need them most.

Bread & Broth was very fortunate to have the Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club partner with us to help ease hunger at the September 3rd Monday Meal. The Rotary Club is dedicated to helping others and its members are involved in many community projects that improve the quality life for the disadvantaged. The club encourages its members to work side by side with the community in local serve projects and has signed up to host four additional Adopt A Days of Nourishment sponsorships over the next nine months.

B&B serves a dinner every Monday at Grace Hall that is financially sponsored by the AAD host and made possible by the hard work of the B&B volunteers and the AAD sponsor crew members who all volunteer their time and effort to feed those in need in our community.

The National Day of Suicide Awareness will be observed in South Lake Tahoe at the Suicide Prevention Network's 2nd annual Emily's Walk for Hope on Saturday, September 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Lakeview Commons.

Emily’s Walk for Hope was founded last year by longtime local, Susan Alessi who lost her daughter Emily Ann Alessi to suicide in 2014. The purpose of this walk is to honor her life, to remember those around us lost to suicide and to help end the stigma surrounding suicide.

The 48th Annual An Evening of Food, Wine and Beer Tasting and Competition will be held on November 9, 2018 at MontBleu.

Join the Tahoe Area Sierra Club at Aspen Hollow in South Lake Tahoe for an Autumn Garden Party and Fundraiser on September 23 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. The event will include food, a raffle and several speakers.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $20 and includees a wide array of appetizers, two drink tickets and five raffle tickets.

Aspen Hollow is located at 541 Emerald Bay Rd.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Family Resource Center (FRC) has long been a stronghold for the South Lake Tahoe community, providing necessary life services to community members in need. This summer, the FRC was especially busy with the ninth year of Parabajitos, an early intervention and prevention program that aims to engage youth and strengthen their connection with their community. The FRC is also home to the Bijou Community Garden, a project started four years ago by community member Brian Hirdman.

It was another successful summer for the Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K) team after they gave away 2,255 bags of food during their nine-week long program feeding local youth. This was almost double the number of bags given away the previous summer.

For three years, BB4K has given weekly backpacks of food to qualifying children at Bijou, Sierra House, Tahoe Valley, Magnet and South Tahoe Middle schools. During the 2017-18 school year, 5,449 backpacks of food were distributed.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Labor Day officially marks the end of the summer season in Lake Tahoe and weekend-long celebrations are spread throughout the South Shore September 1-3, 2018.

Labor Day Lasers at Lakeview return to Lakeview Commons on Sunday, September 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Besides a laser show that uses the tall pines as a backdrop there will be food trucks, a dozen local vendors where people can purchase handcrafted goods and clothing, and a wine and beer garden.

The South Lake Tahoe City Council will be continuing their July 17 discussion and voting on the new cannabis ordinance at their next meeting on Tuesday, August 21.

If approved, the new ordinance will replace the existing medical marijuana ordinance.

To enter the cannabis industry in South Lake Tahoe, businesses will have to obtain a Use Permit, a Development Agreement and a Public Safety License.

No more than two retailers, two microbusinesses and two cultivators. No person can own more than one cannabis business, and no more than one cannabis business can exist on a lot or parcel.

Buffalo Bill’s Wild West returns to Dangberg Historic Park for a third year on Saturday, August 25 with festivities beginning at 2:00 pm. This is the park’s final special event of the 2018 Dangberg Summer Festival, focused on raising funds to support the operation and future of the park.

Booths were set up by California Highway Patrol, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, Barton Heath, California Conservation Corps, South Lake Tahoe Action Team, El Dorado County STAR, El Dorado County Sheriff's Search & Rescue, South Lake Tahoe Drug Free Coalition and the El Dorado County Animal Shelter.

Food was provided by Kiwanis.

The event was also a toy drop off for Toys For Tots.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Almost seven years ago, longtime friends Mark Hudson and Don Havard went to Kauai with their wives to vacation on the Hawaiian Island. They like to get a taste of local favorites while out of town and asked locals where they should eat.

Chicken In A Barrel was their recommendation.

Not only did the Las Vegas foursome go once, but they went a few times and the flavors they experienced have stayed on their minds ever since.

The UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe are pleased to offer a free workshop (donation suggested) on growing fall planted garlic, shallots and elephant garlic. Participants will have the opportunity to receive free bulbs and cloves for fall planting and will be asked to provide basic information on how each variety does, based on what type growing technique is used to grow out provided plant materials.

An amazing group of Kirkwood crew members volunteered to serve at Kirkwood Mountain Resort’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment on Monday, July 23. “These young people were some of the best sponsor volunteers that we have ever had,” exclaimed Dana Tucker, the AAD Sponsor Crew Coordinator for the evening. “They were so happy to do anything that was asked of them.” Even at the end of the evening they all jumped in and dried the dishes to help clean up after the meal.

There will be live music from Miss Molly Mae, food, a keg and a staged reading of the award-winning play "Everybody Here Says Hello" by Bay Area playwright Stuart Bousel. Bring your friends - and maybe a lawn chair or blanket - and grab a seat at the most exciting BBQ you'll be invited to this summer.
