Community Kudos: Humane Society and SPCA Thanks Open House Guests

The Lake Tahoe Humane Society and SPCA thanks South Lake Tahoe for the great turn out at their open house and ribbon cutting on February 25, 2014 in honor of “World Spay Day”. TahoeChamber was present to officiate the ribbon cutting and Mayor Hal Cole cut the ribbon. It was a great turn out and a good start in the Lake Tahoe Humane Society’s mission to let the community learn about all their fantastic services, such as spay and neuter vouchers, emergency pet medical care assistance and an emergency pet food bank.

Bear Found Injured on the Slopes at Heavenly Valley

A young cub was found injured near Gunbarrel at Heavenly Valley Ski Resort on Monday. This story and video is from KCRA-TV out of Sacramento. South Lake Tahoe's Bruce Rettig is shown carrying the bear. The cub is now resting at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care.

South Lake Tahoe Locals Shaving Heads on Saturday

At least 77 of your neighbors and friends will be participating in the 3rd Annual South Lake Tahoe St. Baldrick's headshaving event on Saturday, March 1 at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena. What was developed by three businessmen from New York City in 1999 as a way to give back to their community has turned into over 1,000 nation wide events each year that are held to raise money to help find cures for childhood cancer. Since becoming a non-profit in 2005, St. Baldrick's Foundation has given out $125,251,567 in grants.

South Tahoe High Skiers Take First at High School Ski Races at Heavenly Valley

Skiers from Whittell, South Tahoe, North Tahoe, Incline, Truckee, Carson and Douglas High Schools met on the slopes at Heavenly Valley on Tuesday for the High School Slalom Races.

South Tahoe High's Connor McKeen came in 1st in the boys' races with a total combined time of 1:01.79. Grant Dunkelman of Douglas came in 2nd at 1:02.98 followed by Harrison Goss of North Tahoe 1:03.55.

Maia Bickert from South Tahoe High came in 1st in the girls' races with a time of 1:02.96, followed by Cheyenne Brown of Truckee with a time of 1:04.86 and Laurel Taylor of Incline at 1:07.66.

Snowboarder Dies at Heavenly Ski Resort

The Douglas County Sheriff's Department has reported that an 18 year old snowboarder from Fountain Valley, CA died at Heavenly Ski Resort on Tuesday, February 4.

Ski Patrol was called when Wyatt James Colvard was found lying in the snow, unconscious and having difficulty breathing. They transported him to Boulder Lodge. When Tahoe Douglas Paramedics arrived at the lodge they began advanced life support. Colvard succumbed to his injuries.

Heavenly Celebrating New Snow By Opening More Terrain

South Lake Tahoe - This past week's storm dropped two feet of snow in the mountains of Lake Tahoe, allowing Heavenly Mountain Resort to open 15 trails in the past three days

Heavenly now offers 19 miles of skiing and riding on a total of 39 trails, accessed by 24 lifts. They are opened on weekends from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Ski With a Ranger Program Returns to South Lake Tahoe

The U.S. Forest Service Ski with a Ranger program returns to South Lake Tahoe on Friday, January 17, 2014. Everyone in invited to join them at Heavenly Mountain Resort on Mondays and Fridays at 10 am and 1 pm. The Ski With a Ranger tours begin at the top of the gondola ad last about one hour.

Participants must be intermediate level skiers/boarders or above and provide their own lift ticket. No reservations are required; attendance is on a first-come first-served basis.

DJ Cat Makes First Appearance outside Heavenly's Tamarack Lodge

Heavenly Valley's new DJ Cat was unveiled Friday afternoon.

There will be guest DJs all winter long as part of Heavenly's winter party plan. "There is a reason we’ve been dubbed as the wild child of Vail Resorts. At Heavenly, we like to push the limits and do things a little different,” said Pete Sonntag, vice president and chief operating officer of Heavenly.

Festive Fire Trucks Tour South Lake Tahoe Neighborhoods For The Holidays

The City of South Lake Tahoe Fire Department and the Lake Valley Fire Department have announced their Christmas Fire Truck tours for the season:

In the city limits the fire truck leaves Station 2 at 5 pm each night and runs their route until 8 pm.

Snow Falls in South Lake Tahoe as Ski Resorts Prepare to Open

A few inches of snow fell at South Lake Tahoe overnight, helping local ski resorts prepare for opening day. Heavenly Mountain Resort opens on Friday, November 22 at 9 am with the Gondola and Tamarack Express lift operating. 1.5 miles of skiable terrain on 14 acres will be open for the first weekend.

Free Lake Tahoe Ski Resort Lift Tickets When You Get Special License Plate

With ski resorts busy preparing for the winter season ahead, now is the time to start planning your time on the slopes! "Plates for Powder" is the successful promotion run by the Tahoe Fund to increase sales of the Lake Tahoe license plates.

Individuals who purchase the specialty Lake Tahoe license plate in either Nevada or California prior to April 1, 2014 will receive two lift tickets to their choice of 11 Lake Tahoe resorts.

Tahoe License Plate for Powder Program To Benefit from Snow Forecast

The snow forecast to hit the Lake Tahoe region during the next few days is expected to give the Tahoe Fund's Plate for Powder program a boost along with Sierra ski resorts and businesses. Two of Lake Tahoe's most popular ski and snowboarding icons, Daron Rahlves and Jeremy Jones, have finished shooting public service ads this week for the nonprofit Tahoe Fund's Plate for Powder program. Rahlves and Jones donated their time for the California and Nevada Lake Tahoe specialty license plates program, which gives new Tahoe license plate buyers two free Alpine or Nordic ski tickets to their choice of 12 major Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts.
