Cal Tahoe JPA seeks bids to remodel old jail for new headquarters

They have been without a permanent home since early 2020 when South lake Tahoe Fire Rescue took back its Station 2 for fire and medic operations.
SLT Police team with others to start South Tahoe Alternative Collaborative Services
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/26/2020 - 6:16pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A collaboration between the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless, El Dorado County Behavioral Health, Barton Health and the Caltahoe JPA ambulance will be bringing a new service to South Lake Tahoe community members in crisis.
The emerging collaboration is called the South Tahoe Alternative Collaborative Services (STACS).

Fire in Meyers quickly extinguished by Lake Valley
Submitted by paula on Wed, 01/16/2019 - 8:01pmMEYERS, Calif - A quick response by Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) kept a Tuesday afternoon fire from spreading in Meyers, just outside of South Lake Tahoe.
The calls into 911 first alerted first responders that a car had collided with a residence on Tomahawk Lane and Apache Avenue. Upon arrival they found a structure and vehicle fire.
At 3:18 p.m., LVFPD responded with engines, medic and battalion chiefs while South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue also sent an engine and crew.

The staff was honored for their service doing a job that protects the lives, homes and environment of the South Lake Tahoe community and its visitors.
"Your recognition is well deserved, and well earned," said Mayor Wendy David.

Domestic violence suspect apprehended after hours-long standoff
Submitted by paula on Tue, 01/23/2018 - 9:51amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - A violation of a restraining order in South Lake Tahoe Monday afternoon led to an hours-long standoff, closed off neighborhoods and subsequent arrest of a man with a long history of violence.
On Monday, January 22, at about 4:30 p.m., the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received a call that Brandon Bannowski, 25, had violated a Restraining Order and allegedly entered the home of his ex-girlfriend, threatened her with a baseball bat and choked her.
Fender bender sends one to hospital in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/20/2017 - 8:26pmA fender bender in front Stardust Lodge sent one to the hospital Monday evening. At approximately 5:21 p.m., the driver of a westbound Subaru was not paying attention and ran into the back of a pick-up truck.
Paramedics and a medic and fire crew from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded along with South Lake Tahoe Police.
The passenger in the truck was transported to Barton Hospital with minor injuries. Both drivers did not have injuries.
No one was cited and alcohol or drugs did not play a factor.
Investigation into Lake Valley Fire Captain injury completed
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/14/2017 - 11:56amA Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) Captain who was injured when he fell off a fire truck is home recovering and the investigation into his accident has concluded.
On August 27, 2017 at approximately 3:11 p.m., Lake Valley Fire Engine 7 was returning to the South Shore after responding to a traffic collision near Strawberry. As the truck with its occupants began an incline on Highway 50 around a curve between Twin Bridges and Camp Sacramento, the captain began to remove his turncoat. In order to fully remove it, he disconnected his seat belt and headset.
Small fire and jet ski accident keeping fire and police busy in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/01/2017 - 5:58pmThe long 4th of July holiday weekend in South Lake Tahoe got off to a busy start Saturday with a water rescue and fire.
A boater saw smoke coming from the hillside near Heavenly, called it in from their location off the Ski Run Marina at 1:29 p.m. and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and Police combed the streets in the area to try and locate the source. The fire was spotted on U.S. Forest Service land off Keller Road in between Ruby Way and Wildwood Ave.
Meeks Bay Fire Station designated as an Advanced Life Support station
Submitted by paula on Wed, 02/01/2017 - 5:50pmThe west shore of Lake Tahoe now has access to advanced medical services with the announcement that the Meeks Bay Fire Protection District's Station 61 is now designated as an Advanced Life Support (ALS) Station.
As of January 16 2017, the station is now staffed with a minimum of one captain and one paramedic. Primary response from the station will continue to be E-61, with additional response from the closest medic unit. The ALS units at Meeks Bay Fire Protection District work as part of comprehensive plan to provide the advanced services to the west and north shore of Lake Tahoe.
Tahoe for Standing Rock holding benefit concert

Lake Tahoe area supporters of those protesting the pipeline in Standing Rock, ND will be holding a benefit concert at the Tahoe Biltmore on the North Shore on Saturday, December 3 starting at 1:00 p.m.
The family friendly event will feature musicians along with members of local Native American tribes. Also on tap is a arts and crafts area with face painting, raffle and silent auction. Tickets are $20 for adults (12 and under are free) and available by clicking HERE.
Wilderness enthusiasts and medical responders in MedWAR Tahoe Challenge
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/29/2016 - 4:58pmWhen Krysinthia White’s team, 20 Percent Survival, completed the MedWAR Tahoe Challenge at the Taylor Creek Sno-Park, they knew it was not a first place finish. Yet they were still smiling after six flat tires, a bee sting, and multiple wrong turns.
“From our perspective, last place was the best place,” says White. “We had the entire lake [Fallen Leaf] to ourselves and pretty much the entire trail.”
20 Percent Survival is one of ten teams of wilderness enthusiasts and medical responders who participated in the inaugural MedWAR Tahoe Challenge on Saturday, September 17.
Latest Lake Tahoe fatality identified
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/05/2016 - 3:53pmThe man whose unconscious body was found on June 25 near a jet ski on Lake Tahoe has been identified.
A passerby found 21-year-old Jawahar Kaliyamurthy floating near the unoccupied jet ski east of Meeks Bay at about 11:38 a.m. on the 25th, called for help, pulled the man from the water and began CPR.
Early morning fire at South Lake Tahoe home
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/27/2016 - 10:20am5:30 p.m. update 6/27: A call went into South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue at 6:47 a.m. Monday, June 27 of a home on fire on Kubel Avenue. When personnel arrived, they saw flames from the roof and shed at the rear of the property.
Bill Cottrill promoted to General Manager of Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel

Cottrill, who has been with the property for 18 years, was promoted to general manager effective June 1 by the hotel’s ownership group Premier Hotel Collection.
Cottrill’s long tenure is not unusual for the hotel that enjoys a continuously low turnover rate year after year.
Local ambulances in need of new heart monitors, purchase held up by JPA
Submitted by paula on Mon, 04/04/2016 - 10:17pmIt has been about 18 months since the Cal Tahoe JPA voted to spend $192,000 on badly needed EKG monitors for the nine ambulances that serve the South Lake Tahoe and Meyers area. As of March 31, not a dime has been spent due to a division between the two fire departments that are part of the JPA.
"I don't want public safety to get in the way of politics," said SLT City Councilman Tom Davis at Thursday's emergency JPA meeting. Davis is one of two Council representatives on the JPA board. The other is Mayor Wendy David.

More importantly, and most likely the reason for the passionate responses from all involved, the mix also contains the safety of the public.
On March 15, 2016, the City of South Lake Tahoe sent a letter to the JPA, stating their intent to pull out of the agency that was created in 2001 to supply ambulance service to the City and the County and a portion of Alpine County.

South Lake Tahoe police release more details on gas station murder
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 08/07/2013 - 12:58pmSouth Lake Tahoe police continue to investigate a shooting Tuesday night that left a 27-year-old gas station attendant dead and a gunman who remains at large.
The suspect is described as a thin male suspect approximately 5’8” to to 5’-10” who entered the USA Gas Station at 2470 Lake Tahoe Boulevard before 11 p.m. shooting the clerk with a handgun and fleeing. A gas station customer found the adult male clerk on the floor in a pool of blood and called 911 for help.

Fire at South Lake Tahoe home had marijuana grow operation
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 01/20/2013 - 10:37amSouth Lake Tahoe Fire Department responded early Sunday morning to a house fire at Carson and Armstrong avenues where there was a marijuana grow operation.
According to a news release, all three South Tahoe Fire engines and both medic units were committed at the fire scene, reported at 12:30 a.m. The fire was knocked down quickly so both primary and secondary searches were completed with no victims found and overhaul began.
Liberty Energy and Southwest Gas responded to secure the utilities and SLTFD was able to shut down the
water to the house.

Hot ash sparks deck fire at South Lake Tahoe home

Karl Koeppen, shift commander for the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, said minimal damage was done to the structure and interior of the home, located in the Pioneer Village area. The fire burned the deck structure but did not creep into the interior. The residents were allowed to stay in the house after the fire was knocked down.

South Lake Tahoe police responded to Mo's Place in the 3600 block of Lake Tahoe Boulevard at 12:36 a.m. with a fight reported between patrons and bar security, authorities said. When officers arrived, they learned that the business owner had been punched and knocked unconscious by a patron who had been asked to leave the establishment due to unruly conduct.

Submitted by admin on Thu, 02/23/2012 - 9:36amOn Sunday, February 12, 2012, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team hosted a joint training with the 1-168th Medevac Wing of the California National Guard and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team. Training was conducted in and around Emerald Bay State Park. The 1-168th Medevac Wing, based at Mather Army Air Field Base near Sacramento, brought two Blackhawk helicopters equipped for search and rescue operations with hoists as well as their crew of Chiefs and Medics.
