Space cleared to make way for new Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club building
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/21/2019 - 11:28pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It's looking a lot different at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe facilities at the former Al Tahoe Elementary School on Lyons Avenue.
The current South Lake Tahoe site for BGCLT had major clearing this week to make way for a brand new clubhouse. Old portable buildings were removed as were some trees as crews make way for their multi-million dollar future home.

The annual Day of the Young Child will be held at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This free event is for all ages. There will be activities, games, booths opened by local youth-oriented groups and vendors, and information about jobs in the early childhood education field. A memorable family day with free early childhood activities: painting, beading, clay, bubbles, a puppet show at noon and more.
Oversight committee to be appointed for South Lake Tahoe recreation funds
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/14/2018 - 3:07pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An oversight committee will be established for the 2016 voter-approved Measure P which raised tourist accommodation tax (TOT) by two percent to build a new recreation center in South Lake Tahoe.
During Tuesday's City Council meeting the elected team reviewed criteria for the future committee, and what sectors of the community will be sought. Those chosen will take part in the review of how funds are spent and report back to the public.

This family event features a Gobble Wobble (10 and under) run at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 5K run at 10:30 am.

Greg has been instrumental in the addition of pickle ball to the recreation complex amenities and helping us keep the courts in the best possible condition. Recently Greg dedicated several hours to re-stripe the pickle ball courts and they look fabulous!
On behalf of the Recreation Services Team and all of those who enjoy pickle ball we thank you Greg for your time and service to the community.
SLT Senior Center meeting with County rescheduled due to weather

The City of South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County elected officials are holding a meeting with local seniors to identify the future needs of the Senior Center on Thursday, April 20 at 1:30 p.m. at the center located at 3050 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in the main meeting room.
This meeting was originally scheduled for Thursday, April 13 but has been postponed due to a forecast of inclement weather.
Douglas County room tax may increase 1% to fund event center at Lake Tahoe

Overwhelming support for the tax increase was evident at the Douglas County Commissioner's meeting Thursday, where the elected officials voted 4-1 to approve the increase which would go into effect May 1, 2017.

If passed, the ballot measures will accomplish two things: replace the recreation complex and repair the City's roads and/or replace the aging fleet.

The upcoming 4th Annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show is full of hands on demonstrations, items for your home and garden, displays, music and food...all to get you in the mood for the next season.
Doors open on Friday, April 24, and will be open from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the exhibits continue from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Last year, over 1,200 people attended the Home and Garden Show which is held once again at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex located at 1080 Rufus Allen Blvd. Besides vendors there will also be a raffle full of prizes donated by the vendors.
Community fitness challenge being held at SLT Recreation Center
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/04/2015 - 9:15pmLooking for some incentive to start getting more exercise? There is a new challenge program being offered called the Monthly Wellness Challenge where community members will compete for a monthly certificate and gift package.
The month of March is called 'Sweat Sessions' and will track the number of hours particpants spend in the Recreation Center's weight room. After paying the daily use fee, participants will track the amount of time spent in the weight room from March 1 to March 31. Sessions are tracked in 30 minute intervals.

The Parks, Trails and Recreation Master Plan has identified the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex for future renovation, but exactly how that renovation will look is up to the public.

South Lake Tahoe's Recreation Complex now set up a a Red Cross Evacuation Center

Last night at 8 p.m., City officials were informed that the town of Kyburz might need to go into an evacuation advisory situation, and with Highway 50 closed at the time residents wouldn't have been able to go the evacuation centers to the west.
The Red Cross staff is manning their station at the Recreation Complex 24/7 until the need is passed.
Chili Cookoff and Fall Festival held Satuday

There will be live entertainment, a cake walk, raffles, vendors and a chili tastings as well as events for the whole family. Admission to the event is free. More information can be found on the website at www.goldenbearevents.com.
Local non-profits will benefit from the event. The South Tahoe Cancer League, Lion's Club, American Legion Post 795, Christmas Cheer and the Lake Tahoe Humane Society are among the recipients.

Annual Parking Passes Now Available for South Lake Tahoe Residents

In an effort to keep up their end of the "parking bargain," the City of South Lake Tahoe has started selling annual parking permits to local residents in the 89448-89449 and 96150-96158 zip codes. In last month's City Council meetings with the public and a group opposed to paid parking, city leaders had promised to work out a parking plan that would address the issues proposed, and a paid permit for locals is the first step.

Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show will be in the Gym at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex, 1182 Rufus Allen Blvd., South Lake Tahoe Friday, April 26, 4 pm to 8 pm and Saturday, April 27, 10 am to 6 pm.
Event to feature live music by Fabrizio both days and Cal Poly Pomona Jazz Band Saturday afternoon; landscaping and defensible demonstrations by the South Lake Tahoe and Lake Valley fire departments; door prizes, plenty of vendors and more.

City: Thanks Raley’s for Support of the Turkey Trot Fun Run
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 11/15/2012 - 9:56amThe City of South Lake Tahoe would like to remind the community that the 2012 Turkey Trot Fun Run is being held this Saturday, November 17th at the Parks and Recreation facility at 11am. The Fun Run is a free event for children ages 3-13 and every participant will win a prize. We would also like to thank the many local volunteers, including Raley’s and Optimist Club for their support of this annual local event.
Raley’s has generously donated all of the turkeys and pies as the awarded prizes to Turkey Trot Fun Run winners.
