Lake Tahoe Visitor's Authority donates to new TAMBA trails
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/20/2017 - 12:34pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority fundraising effort from last month’s Amgen Tour of California raised more than $1,700 for the Tahoe Area Mountain Bike Association toward building new mountain biking and hiking trails. A welcome reception, team presentation and silent auction provided necessary funds toward Phase One construction of the new trail system totaling six miles at Fallen Leaf Lake/Angora Ridge.
This summer TAMBA is working with the U.S. Forest Service to build the initial phase of the eventual 15 miles of new trails. Phase One includes:

Co-existence is a community effort, learn how to protect your pets, home, and property from all wildlife, mice to bears and mountain lions.
The discussion will be lead by Rebecca Dmytryk of the founder of Human Wildlife Control Association, and Madonna Dunbar, resource conservationist for IVGID.

June 22, 2017 - 6:30pm The five-piece band Mo’z Motley Blues will perform blues, rock pop and soul at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 pm on Thursday, June 22.
Monique DeHaviland and the Mo’z Motley Blues Band have been performing originals and 5 decades of cover music with blues infected rock, pop, soul, and country repertoire geared to make audiences move from the minute the music begins.
The band was founded in 2012 and members come from the surrounding Reno-Tahoe area. Band members are Monique DeHaviland, Samantha Moore, Mylo McCormick, Don Lalonde and Ian McDonald on horns.

June 21, 2017 - 6:30pm Steve Hale will portray the legendary mailman of the Sierra, Jon A. “Snowshoe Thompson, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, June 21, at 6:30 pm.
When Jon Thompson put on his 8-foot skis and heavy leather mail pack in 1856, he skied to Genoa and into history. His two to three day 90-mile crossings (one way) carrying the mail and valuable packages of up to 100 pounds on his back through the snow have never been physically duplicated, not even with modern equipment. This extraordinary feat has become part of the legacy and spirit of the pioneer American West.

Students learn bike safety and skills at South Lake Tahoe Middle School

As part of the 12th annual Tahoe Bike Challenge, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), the Lake Tahoe Bike Coalition and the Community Mobility Group put the students through a series of stations learning how to fit helmets correctly, how to do hand signals, a skills rodeo, the parts of a bike and how to fix a flat and do other repairs and an obstacle course.

Jim Clark, known to many as “The Train Man”, will cover some of the 250 films he has worked on. Clark is an engineer and train coordinator who is associated with several of the biggest films with trains and their Hollywood stars. Some of those films include "The Lone Ranger", "Wild, Wild, West" and "Into the West".

El Dorado Beach boat ramp at Lakeview Commons open

2012 was the last year the El Dorado Beach boat ramp was open due to the following years of less than stellar winters and the ensuing drought.
The cost is $17.00 - Day Use Launch, $40.00 - Commercial Day Use Launch and $138.00 - Annual Pass. There are staff members assigned to the launch to collect fees. The ramp is open 8:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m. daily with the last launch at 4:30 p.m.

New zip line to go through treetops in South Lake Tahoe this summer
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/14/2017 - 6:22pmThe Silver Rush, a new 4,159-foot long zip line opening this summer at Heavenly's Epic Discovery, will take users from tree-to-tree at speeds up to 40 miles per hour. Overlooking the Carson Valley, Silver Rush is comprised of five segmented zip lines; the final of which flies guests over the waters of East Peak Lake.
Once the ride is completed, guests enjoy a scenic ATV ride back to the top of the Gondola. It is a three-hour long experience.

Tahoe Fund and USFS launch project to control trashed sleds in Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 04/03/2017 - 4:44pmWhat has become an out-of-control, unsightly and all too common practice at Lake Tahoe snow play areas now has a champion to control abandoned sleds.
Tahoe Fund Executive Director Amy Berry brought several organizations together to discuss potential solutions to resolve this issue. It had been on their radar for some time, but with the rapid growth of discarded sleds covering the landscape, Berry and the Tahoe Care Team of the agency knew something had to be done immediately.

April 22, 2017 - 10:00am Do you love Lake Tahoe and the outdoors? Come learn skills for exploring the natural world around you and how to capture your adventures in a nature journal. We’ll learn to see more when we’re out in the Tahoe wilderness, how to identify what we encounter, and practice drawing and writing about all of it! Some materials will be provided but bring a notebook and pen if you have them! Make sure to dress for the weather—we’ll be going out exploring! Free and open to all children over 10 years of age.
