EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Supervisor Brooke Laine has published a survey for El Dorado County residents living in the unincorporated area of the Lake Tahoe Basin (including Meyers and Tahoma).

There are nine questions about public transit in the region.

Letter: Tahoe needs housing solutions, not a vacancy tax

Tahoe has a housing problem. This is the one thing that we can all agree on.

Our community is leaving town at increasing rates as they continue to get priced out. “Locals for Affordable Housing” has been very vocal in publicly advocating for what they claim is a solution: a vacancy tax.

It is not. The truth is, those in our community who need housing solutions the most would be hurt significantly if this tax measure passed.

Major storm expected to hit Lake Tahoe at end of the week

Starting at 4 a.m. Monday there is a Lake Wind Warning in place until Tuesday at 4 a.m. Expect winds from the southwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and waves 3 to 5 feet for Lake Tahoe.

SNO-Parks offer safe and fun space to enjoy the snow around Lake Tahoe

There are 18 SNO-Parks on U.S. Forest Service land in California, ten in the Lake Tahoe Basin with many others just a short drive away. The parks offer cleared parking for vehicles, and opportunities for non-motorized winter activities including cross-country skiing, dog sledding, and snow play. A handful of SNO-Parks offer access to both motorized and non-motorized activities.

Using the SNO-Parks keeps drivers off the sides of US50, SR89, and SR88 where cars are often parked in the lane of travel, with young children walking along the roadway and/or sledding into traffic.

Four men arrested in South Lake Tahoe incidents Wednesday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Wednesday was a busy day for the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD). Four people were arrested in two separate incidents.

SLTPD has been doing a significant amount of proactive directed enforcement towards any possible Fentanyl in South Lake Tahoe after the overdose deaths of four residents on February 12.

Enrollment now open for LTUSD students new to the district

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Enrollment for Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten for the 2024/25 school year is now open. Parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible. Registration is also open for all grades through 5th grade at this time.

Once the online enrollment is completed (https://laketahoe.asp.aeries.net/air), LTUSD will need additional paperwork (see below). Your school of residence will contact you for a registration appointment.

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe keeps slopes open late on Fridays, announces other specials

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is bringing back its popular “Open Late Fridays” starting this Friday, February 23. For the rest of the season, the resort will stay open two additional hours on Fridays, spinning select chairlifts until 6 p.m. and making the most of longer days and mid-winter snow conditions. The two-hour extension of its operations on Fridays allows skiers and riders to take “bonus runs” or kick off the weekend with an afternoon on the mountain.

Two new shows have been added to the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harvey's Tahoe: Dan + Shay, and Lake Tahoe is for Lovers. Country music stars Dan + Shay embark on their Heartbreak on the Map Tour this month, and it has been extended into the summer. The three-time Grammy Award winners will have Jake Owen and Dylan Marlowe on the tour with them.

Their Lake Tahoe stop is Sunday, September 15 at 7 p.m. Dan + Shay will be the new coaches on The Voice for the upcoming season.

Raley’s Food For Families donates over 100 stuffed bears to Carson Valley Health ER

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The wonderful Carson Valley community came through yet again with the donation of over 100 stuffed collector bears from Raley’s Food For Families. The bears were donated to the Carson Valley Health Emergency Department and East Fork Fire first responders. These bears provide comfort during a scary time for our youngest residents experiencing health emergencies.

Five ultra-athletes will retrace the steps of John "Snowshoe" Thompson's inaugural mail route which he began on January 3, 1856, from Placerville, Calif. to Genoa, Nev., 90 miles away and across the snowbound Sierra Nevada.

The Snowshoe Thompson Expedition team will complete their journey over five days and carry a GPS tracker enabling live updates of their progress which followers can track here.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Have you heard of The CAPP FUND? Back in 2020, a month before the world shut down, the CAPP Fund made its debut. A small, all-volunteer nonprofit located in South Lake Tahoe, the CAPP Fund intends to increase access to higher education by helping local high school seniors with the costs of 4-year college application fees. The goal is to give more young adults the opportunity of a college education by taking away the small barrier of the application fees.

Two more waves of stormy weather for Lake Tahoe to start off the week

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Winter Storm Warning is in place for the Lake Tahoe Basin until 10 a.m. Wednesday. After a fairly mild Sunday before the next storm system arrived, a wetter storm is now in the area. It is expected to bring heavy wet Sierra snow with good spillover rains into lower valleys though daytime highs remain mild. The timing of the heaviest rain/snow will be Sunday night into Monday, but heavy snow showers will likely persist through early Wednesday. Significant impacts to travel are likely in the Sierra to end the holiday weekend.

Main trails to popular Burney Falls to close during 2024 Season

Fact Check: Debunking misinformation about Lake Tahoe's black bears

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – In recent weeks, misinformation about black bears has been circulating online and on flyers posted throughout the Lake Tahoe community. The Tahoe Interagency Bear Team (TIBT) is a collective of bear experts across state and local agencies who study and understand these animals and have devoted much of their professional lives to ensuring the health and well-being of the Lake Tahoe Basin’s black bears.

Winter Weather Advisory and Storm Warning through Wednesday at Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Lake Tahoe Basin for 10 a.m. Saturday through 4 a.m. Sunday. That will be followed by a Winter Storm Warning from 4 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

For the Winter Weather Advisory, a quick storm will be dropping snow over the Sierra. Snow accumulations at lake level could be up to one inch, and up to 5 inches at higher elevations, with the highest accumulations along and west of SR89.
