Column: Are you mentally prepared for ski season?
Submitted by paula on Sun, 12/12/2021 - 12:03amThere's more to preparing for the slopes than getting in shape.
Physical fitness has a lot to do with your ability to enjoy ski season. But your mental fitness is just as important. Hitting the slopes after recovering from an injury or simply pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone in challenging terrain can create plenty of barriers to a fun day in the snow. As you tune up your gear and work on your cardio for the season ahead, consider your mental preparation as well. It will help you avoid getting stuck in your head when it comes to having fun on the mountain.

Letter: A problem in our backyard
Submitted by paula on Sat, 12/11/2021 - 9:58pmFor the past 20 years, I’ve been extremely fortunate to own a home in the Tahoe Keys and share a boat with a few friends. In those two decades, I’ve seen a lot of change from the view out of my backyard.
The watery cul-de-sac where the boat is parked during the summer, while never as crystal clear as the Lake itself, has become more murky and unattractive each year. Every time I take the boat out, I spend more time with a gaff pushing long tentacles of green, underwater plants off the hull and untangling them from the prop.
