Serial arson suspect arrested in El Dorado County
Submitted by paula on Sat, 10/28/2023 - 2:10pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) arrested a 27-year-old man this week on suspicion of starting multiple fires in both El Dorado and Amador counties.
On October 23, 2023, EDSO arrested Steven Saunders for a CAL FIRE-related warrant in El Dorado County for three fires that occurred in Pollock Pines in mid-September. Since the individual was taken into custody, he has been charged with two additional fires, totaling five fires between El Dorado and Amador counties.

A concussion is a type of TBI caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head that can change the way your brain normally works. Concussions can also occur from a blow to the body that causes the head to move rapidly back and forth, as in whiplash. Even what seems to be a mild bump or blow to the head can be serious if it causes a concussion.

South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) reminds homeowners to prepare for the chilly temps.

• Turn off and drain irrigation systems.
• Disconnect and drain all outdoor hoses.
• Insulate exposed pipes or faucets.

National Runaway and Homeless Youth Prevention Month

Tahoe Youth & Family Services (TYFS) is proud to spearhead this campaign and offer resources to support vulnerable youth and their families in our community. National studies indicate that more than 4.2 million young people between the ages of 13 and 25 experience some form of homelessness in the United States each year.

That means those with physical disabilities, families with strollers, or anyone who has difficulty navigating stairs are unable to access the boardwalks and experience the wonders of these meadows.
The Tahoe Fund has partnered with the Tahoe Meadows Access Ramp Committee to raise $150,000 to build an accessibility ramp to the boardwalks, but we need your help.
NDOT close to finishing two-year project on SR28 and SR431
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/26/2023 - 4:14pmINCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and Q&D Construction have substantially completed a multi-year project to resurface and enhance sections of State Routes 28 and 431 to preserve pavement and protect Lake Tahoe.
Over the past two construction seasons, crews used approximately 41,500 tons of asphalt to repave and enhance approximately 14 miles of State Routes 28 and 431, centered around Incline Village.

A proactive outage may affect approximately 1,650 NV Energy customers beginning at approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, lasting until approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 26.

South Tahoe Middle School 7th grade girls basketball team ends season at 10-0

During the single elimination TAV-NEVA 7th grade Girl’s tournament, they also went undefeated with a 3-0 score competing against Whittell in the championship game.

Winter is fast approaching and they are seeking all items related to keeping local kids warm and able to play in the snow. They do not need jackets at this time since they are already graciously provided by the local Kiwanis club and are offered to all students.

This year, tree permits begin being sold on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023. Permits will be sold in person only at the Forest Supervisor’s office in South Lake Tahoe at 35 College Drive. Permits cost $10 each (please bring cash only), with a limit of one permit per family or household.

STEEC is a collaborative network of over 25 local agencies and non-profits that work together with Alissa Zertuche of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Careers, Technology, and Education Department (CTE) to run place-based outdoor environmental programs for all students in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District.

Time will tell. Fall-like conditions return this week as a series of cooler storms moves through the region. Rain showers and breezy winds will continue tonight into early Monday morning. Additional chances for precipitation and gusty winds are projected to arrive mid-week.

STHS Boys' Tennis Team heads to the NIAA State Championship

Led by head coach Will Davenport and assistant coach Glenn Berberet, the team overall swept their division, going undefeated all season, thus heading to Vegas as the #1 seed for Northern Nevada in the NIAA 3A division. Truckee achieved the second seed to compete at the State Tournament which begins Thursday at Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas. South Tahoe plays Adelson, the #2 seed for Southern Nevada at 8 a.m.

California invests $3.7B to continue rebuilding transportation infrastructure for all travelers

They will be handing out U. S. Constitutions and informing the public about their survey asking "YES" or "NO" to have the county leave the State of California and taking on the new name of The Republic of El Dorado State.

Former MLB pitcher and woman arrested as suspects in 2021 Homewood murder

Douglas County commissioners tackle VHR density levels with one asking for ban north of Cave Rock
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/19/2023 - 5:27pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - After the Douglas County Board of Commissioners approved the latest update to the Vacation Home Rental (VHR) ordinance this past summer they asked for a look at density levels.
In July and August of 2023, the VHR Advisory Board conducted public hearings and discussed the issue of density. The VHR Advisory Board ultimately concluded that the 15 percent density limitations should not be changed at this time. They wanted the current rules to be in place for one year to then look at further changes if needed.
