LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – What began as a promising winter fizzled out in early 2022, leading to the driest January and February recorded across California and Nevada since record-keeping began. Closer to home, Tahoe City, which has weather records dating back to 1910, set a record for the driest January through March.

On March 31, 2022, the National Weather Service (NWS) drought monitor noted that 40 percent of California and 36 percent of Nevada is suffering from extreme drought, with severe drought conditions evident in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

El Dorado County disperses almost $2M to area non-profits to help recoup COVID-19 losses

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - With so many nonprofits struggling financially due to the pandemic, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors has approved nearly $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grants to help the groups on both slopes. The grants were approved during the board's budget meeting on Monday to help the nonprofits recoup some of their losses.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe renovating softball field

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Years in the making, women from the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe club have renovated the softball field for the community to enjoy. Two of the three sets of bleachers are in, the Soroptimist Stadium scoreboard is up, new fences are in place, new benches are installed, and new soil and sod are now in the infield and outfield.

The club is making a $325,000 investment in the girls of the community with a softball field to be proud of. Brooke Laine, the project lead, said South Lake Tahoe will be seen as a community where girls are valued.

Months after animals found in deplorable conditions in El Dorado County home, mother and daughter plead guilty

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. – The two El Dorado County women charged with exposing multiple animals to inhumane conditions and severe neglect entered guilty pleas in El Dorado County Superior Court on April 19.

Jennifer Cowles, 48, and her mother Adele Painter, 71, both of El Dorado, have pled guilty to animal cruelty charges.

This topic is the next presentation by the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) that will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 5:30 p.m. This marks the first event to be held in person since the pandemic moved all TERC talks to Zoom.

Suspects sought for their involvement in batteries at Lake Tahoe casino

STATELINE, Nev. - Three men are being sought for their involvement in several batteries that took place in the casino corridor on March 20. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) has been investigating the case and is asking for the public's help.

A group of intoxicated males were involved in physical altercations outside and inside the Hard Rock Lake Tahoe on March 20 just before 3:00 p.m.

According to DCSO, the offending group consisted of three males, two of which battered others.

Tahoe Chamber hosting forums for El Dorado County supervisor and Douglas County commissioner races

Dry week ahead for Lake Tahoe, temperatures remain seasonably mild

For Tuesday through next weekend, several systems move into the West for periods of increased winds, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Periods of light precipitation are also possible, mainly in northeast California and western Nevada north of Interstate 80. Temperatures remain seasonably mild through the week.

Going, going, gone - Old Tahoe Urgent Care leveled to allow for site restoration

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - The 67-year-old building that once housed Tahoe Urgent Care at the corner of 4th Street and Lake Tahoe Boulevard has been demolished. Crews were on hand Tuesday to tear down the old building on the .48 acre property purchased by the California Tahoe Conservancy parcel. The parcel sits on environmentally sensitive land that is subject to frequent flooding.

Three South Tahoe High students set to play at collegiate level in their sports

Next storm heading for Lake Tahoe could bring snow measured in feet above 7000 feet

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The next storm that is heading to Lake Tahoe brings with it a powerful punch for a spring storm. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Lake Tahoe Basin to be in effect from 5:00 p.m. Wednesday to 11:00 a.m. Friday.

Just as gardeners want to start getting plants into the ground, instead it will be snow accumulating that could measure almost a foot by the time this strong system exits.

Registration open for Douglas County Parks & Recreation adult softball leagues

Registration is underway for the Douglas County Parks & Recreation adult softball leagues. The divisions Offered this season are co-ed on Tuesday nights and men’s on Thursday nights.

The cost is $500 per team and registrations are accepted until the league is full.

The season starts the week of May 10, 2022.

All Games will be played between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. at Zephyr Cove Park.

170 people participate in NDOT information booths on US50 corridor

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - As the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) makes plans for the US50 corridor on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, the public has been participating in the process. There were three information booths sent up from March 30 to April 2, with 170 community members and stakeholders taking part by providing input and learning more about the initial concepts for the highway. These include vehicle, transit, and multi-modal strategies to enhance roadway travel and safety on US50 between Spooner Summit and the Nevada-California border at Stateline.
