UPDATE: At approximately 8:37 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision on US-50 in the area of Douglas County Mile Marker 13. A silver Toyota Corolla and a silver Toyota 4-Runner collided in what Nevada State Police are calling an angle crash. Investigators have determined that the Toyota Corolla was traveling too fast, drove left of center, and struck the front of the Toyota 4-Runner. The driver of the Corolla was cited for failing to use Due Care (NRS 484B.603). Eastbound lanes were blocked.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — After two years of being offered only virtually, Lake Tahoe Community College’s popular Intensive Spanish Summer Institute (ISSI) is returning to campus, offering students an opportunity to learn, converse, and experience Spanish language, arts, and culture together in person.

TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Truckee Police Department is thrilled to introduce the newest member of its command staff, Captain Mugshot. Originally named Billy Bob, this sweet 8-month-old, English bulldog was found in Kern County where he was picked up as a stray and placed with a local rescue group. That group reached out to the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) where he, along with several other dogs, were quickly transferred to the Truckee shelter.

Come experience Northern Nevada's finest jazz musicians as Music Director Doug Coomler and the Reno Jazz Orchestra present the music of the Thad Jones and Mel Lewis Orchestra.

This big band jazz Orchestra became world-famous, especially with their 1967 release, Live at the Village Vanguard. The album was nominated for a GRAMMY in that same year under the category of "Best Instrumental Jazz Performance of a Large Group." The Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra went on to win a GRAMMY in 1979.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - It has been just four days shy of one year since the first jump into Lake Tahoe to start removing trash around its 72-miles of shoreline. Now 81 dive days later, the non-profit Clean Up The Lake has finished its extraordinary initial goal of recovering thousands of pounds of trash from the lake.

The first trip around the lake has resulted in the removal of 24,756 items of trash weighing 25,281.3 pounds, which includes:

5,415 plastic items weighing 2467.2 lbs
1259 rubber items weighing 4275.8 lbs
739 wood items weighing 1723.6 lbs

The Tahoe iMPRoV Players turn audience suggestions into hilarious scenes made up on the spot. Their improv journey began as ComedySportz of Lake Tahoe in 1993. Three years later they evolved into the Tahoe iMPRoV players.

They return to the Valhalla Boathouse Theater for three dates: Tuesday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 5 at 7:30 p.m., and Tuesday, August 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Psychosis describes a condition that affects the mind, where there has been some loss of contact with reality. During a period of psychosis, a person’s thoughts and perceptions are disordered and the individual may have difficulty distinguishing what is real from what is not.

Psychosis can happen to anyone, though symptoms most often begin between ages 16 and 30. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), there are about 100,000 new cases of psychosis each year in the U.S.

I have known Tamara Wallace for about 30 years, from the first time she joined the Lake Tahoe Kiwanis Club. Even back then she was interested in helping people.

As South Lake Tahoe Chamber CEO, her organizational skills and ability to bring clarity to the situations we faced in our city, made decision-making for the board easy. She usually didn’t take sides, but instead explained the pros and cons of the issues. To do that she had to think through the issues.

I'd like to thank the South Lake Tahoe community for their support at my recent book signing and wine tasting at Cork & More, it was a huge success. The love for Tahoe and support as a community together to achieve "Living in Harmony" has been amazing!

Our country is almost more divided than at any other time in history; with the worst aspect of that being neither side is able to talk to each other.

Meeting Agendas, Legislation and Plans more and more represent Partisan goals while ignoring Community needs.

Very few of our elected leaders are working for us; the vast majority are only concerned with their own reelection prospects and catering to those providing the funding.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Black Ice Theatre Co. is presenting "The Spitfire Grill" at the Duke Theatre this June. Based on the hit 1996 film of the same name, it is a heartwarming and inspirational musical tale of redemption, perseverance, and family.

“This is our first musical,” said Richard S. Sargent, the musical’s director, “and it feels so relevant to Tahoe life post-pandemic. It also marks our first musical in conjunction with the previously defunct LTCC Theatre Department. We are trying to build that back up for the community, so we hope to see you at the show!”

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) has begun the process of opening National Forest recreational sites, roads, and gates in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Weather and conditions permitting, anticipated recreation site opening dates can be found under the Recreation Conditions Report heading at go.usa.gov/xwXAf. Roads and gates typically begin opening on dates listed in the Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUMs) at go.usa.gov/xHwSe.

Family fun, lively bands, and historical characters return to Dangberg Historic Park beginning in May. Favorite presenters, bands, and Chautauquans will be joined by new ones as well.

A returning favorite event is the Kite Weekend on Saturday, May 14, and Sunday, May 15, from 10 am until 3 pm both days. Cameron and Reina Kauffman of Coolkiter.com will bring their assortment of big and beautiful kites, kites for high wind and kites for no wind.

“We are always happy to let the public try our kites and we just really enjoy sharing our passion,” said Cameron Kauffman.
