Off-duty firefighters from South Lake Tahoe Fire Department will be shaking their turnout boots and collecting donations to help “Fill the Boot for Burns.” This event on Friday at the Safeway on Johnson Boulevard and Saturday Intersection of Lake Take Boulevard and Park Street will raise money to support burn prevention and recovery programs in Northern and Central California.

Wind and snow expected this weekend for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 2:30pmA strong cold front will move through the region Saturday afternoon bringing high winds to the Sierra and Lake Tahoe region and up to 18 inches of snow in the higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. A High Wind Warning is in effect across the Sierra and Western Nevada from Friday night through Saturday. Wind gusts are expected to reach 60 mph through most valleys and up to 70 mph in wind prone areas with gusts over 100 mph across Sierra ridges.

Nevada’s Jobless Rate Shrinks Again In February But News Not All Good

Bill Anderson, chief economist with the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), said an argument can be made that the forces behind the drop in the jobless rate were signs of weakness.
