The motel, located at 2250 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, was purchased by TCH along with two other motels with Project Homekey funds at the beginning of 2021.
The Bear’s Den is in need of an electrical panel replacement and wired

“The Board is thrilled to have Jason lead the Conservancy,” said Conservancy Board Chair and El Dorado County Supervisor Sue Novasel. “His deep knowledge of the agency and its work, along with his science and management experience, made him an exceptional candidate. Woodruff will recount the gripping tale of the courageous and heroic efforts of Reed and others who saved the lives of 45 desperate souls during the tragic winter crossing of the Sierra Nevada in 1846-47.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office Street Enforcement Team arrest alleged drug traffickers

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Street Enforcement Team (SET), in conjunction with the Tri-Net Task Force and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, arrested the men in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart Store on Grant Avenue in Gardnerville. The arrests were the culmination of a short investigation into the drug trafficking activities of David Wright, a 56-year-old male from the southern California area.

They are now fundraising to help cover expenses as they head to Pacific Southwest Regionals in Price, Utah July 24-30. The World Series will be held in Virginia from August 10-12.

Tony Romo rolled in a clutch five-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to outgun Joe Pavelski and Mark Mulder and capture his third American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament title Sunday.
It was the first time in the tournament's history to have a three-way tie at the end of 54 holes, and the fifth playoff.
Heat and smoke on tap in the South Lake Tahoe forecast
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/10/2022 - 6:09pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Temperatures will warm above average this week with triple-digit heat likely for many lower elevations and mid-to-high 80s around Lake Tahoe.
The hotter temperatures will bring increased chances for thunderstorms starting Tuesday afternoon into the end of the week, but the highest chances are south of Lake Tahoe. A few afternoon thunderstorms are possible from Tuesday into Saturday with low chances for very localized rain. The primary concerns will be lightning and gusty winds.

Expect smoke from Washburn Fire over Lake Tahoe again Sunday
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/10/2022 - 6:26amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Washburn Fire burning in Yosemite is bringing smoke into the Lake Tahoe Basin Sunday morning, leaving some unhealthy air quality readings throughout the region.
The AQI this morning is 151 in some recording spots in South Lake Tahoe but most of the town is in the "unhealthy for sensitive group" range. For up-to-the-minute AQI from wildfires, visit https://fire.airnow.gov/. During the day, the winds at the fire area will move the fire to a more northwesterly direction towards Sacramento before it moved over Lake Tahoe.

Caltrans traffic alert: Lane and ramp closures ahead for improvement projects in Truckee

Between 8 p.m. Sunday, July 10 and 10 a.m. Friday, July 15, the I-80 eastbound #2 (right) lane will be closed around the clock between Donner Pass Road/Cold Stream Road and the SR-89 south separation. Construction crews will be grinding and repaving the eastbound chain installation/removal area on the shoulder.

On Friday after the first round of play, 12 celebrity golfers and one Korbel distributor representative tried to get it into the cup on one swing on the 17th hole. A local charity is selected to be the recipient of the funds should one of the celebrities get the hole-in-one. This year it was the South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center.
Smoke from Washburn Fire in Yosemite made way to Lake Tahoe/Carson Valley areas
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/08/2022 - 7:38pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 466-acre Washburn Fire near Yosemite has been pushing smoke to the north all day, with the Carson Valley now seeing heavy amounts of the smoke. There is also some smoke flowing into the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno said the smoke heading to Lake Tahoe and the Carson Valley can now be seen on satellite
They said to expect smoke to settle in overnight, leaving a smokey smell on Saturday morning. The winds expected in the afternoon should blow it out of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
T.J. Oshie grabs first round lead over Mulder, Romo, Sorenstam at American Century Championship

Oshie posted 21 points Friday and held off late challengers Annika Sorenstam and Mark Mulder to grab the first-round lead.
Oshie, a right-winger for the Washington Capitals, is one of 15 active athletes in the field, shot a 2-over-par 74, and eagled the par-5 18th.

Thousands watch biggest South Lake Tahoe 4th of July parade ever - winners announced

They were met with waves and cheers along the parade route as thousands of people lined the streets, many in their red, white, and blue clothing, flags, hats, and other patriotic displays.
The scores have been tallied for the inaugural Best of the Parade Awards, and the winners are:

Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/07/2022 - 9:36pmLAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Celebrities filled Edgewood Tahoe Thursday as the final pre-American Century Championship tournament action finished up. The three-day championship gets underway Friday.
Part of the action Thursday involved a battle-of-the-sexes - Golf personality Paige Spiranac, LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam, and former Miss America Kira K. Dixon against NFL Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Marcus Allen in a short-game skills contest.
Spiranac nearly holed out a 30-yard bunker shot and the women’s team easily defeated the men.
Small fire at Tahoe Paradise Park quickly extinguished
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/07/2022 - 8:46pmMEYERS, Calif. - Fire personnel responded to a call of a fire at Tahoe Paradise Park Thursday evening at 5:51 p.m. The fire was in a downed timber area between the disc golf course and the old basketball court at the park.
Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) responded first, followed immediately by CalFIRE. The first was put out quickly and ended up being 20' x 20', according to LVFPD Battalion Chief Perry Quinn.
Since the fire was determined to be on State land, so CalFIRE is the lead agency. They were on scene until about 8 p.m. and finished mopping up the scene.

Arrest made after woman admits to setting Truckee fire
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/07/2022 - 12:01pmUPDATE 5:45PM - As a result of a coordinated investigation involving Truckee Police and Cal Fire personnel, the cause of this afternoon's wildland fire was determined to have been human-caused. A female suspect was taken into custody after evidence was obtained indicating she was responsible for setting several spot fires which resulted in the bigger fire Thursday that led to evacuations.
She later admitted to investigators of having set the fires intentionally.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office seeks evidence linked to catalytic converter thefts
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/06/2022 - 7:13pmOn June 23, the Mammoth Lakes Police Department attempted to stop a silver Acura MDX which was suspected of committing catalytic converters thefts. The vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued. At the end of the pursuit, Jean Anthony Henderson-Hamilton, a 37-year-old male from Sparks, Nevada, and Deanna Kaye Douglas, a 49-year-old female from Fallon, Nevada were arrested. Henderson-Hamilton and Douglas had a number of stolen catalytic converters in their vehicle.

There was a Pro-Am on Wednesday and Thursday will feature a Celebrity-Am tournament. Also on tap are a short-game skills challenge between Annika Sorenstam, Paige Spiranac, and Kira K. Dixon taking on Hall-of-Famers Marcus Allen and Jerry Rice. There will also be the Korbel Long Drive Competition and a Tony Romo autograph signing session.
Massive numbers of July 4th partiers at Zephyr Shoals, leaving trash and waste behind
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/06/2022 - 4:06pmZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - A massive number of young adults filled the beach at the site of the old Dreyfus Estate just north of the Zephyr Cove Resort on July 4, leaving behind massive amounts of trash and the beginning of plans on what to do before the situation gets out of hand. Without any restrooms at the site, one can imagine what else was left at what has become an uncontrolled party spot for hundreds of people, most in the 21-25-year-old range.

Electra Fire is 4,478 acres and firefighters have it 70% contained
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/06/2022 - 7:30am7/8 UPDATE: Fire activity remained minimal today with the majority of the heat and smoke residing from yesterday’s burning operation. Firefighters are working to create and reinforce containment lines. Established control lines continue to hold and mop up and patrol will continue while suppression repair strategy is implemented.
The fire has burned 4,478 acres and is 70 percent contained. Many of the evacuated residents have been allowed back into their homes and some road closures remain.

In total, the litter-fighting teams removed 3,450 pounds of trash from the environment – litter that would have found its way into the Lake’s blue waters if it wasn’t collected by event participants.

Quick fire response to fire caused by illegal fireworks at Cave Rock
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/05/2022 - 1:02pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A very quick response by multiple firefighters kept a 4th of July fire under an acre at the Cave Rock boat ramp.
Just after the big South Shore fireworks show, Lights on the Lake, got underway, a group at Cave Rock started its own show with consumer fireworks, firing off shells into the sky. A fire started and everyone involved with the illegal fireworks show fled the area.

Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/05/2022 - 11:28amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A South Lake Tahoe man was arrested on July 4 after officers with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) were notified of a domestic violence incident.
According to police, Dylan Puleri, 29, was identified as the suspect and was reportedly armed with a non-serialized “ghost” AR-15 rifle. Puleri had left the scene of the domestic violence incident and his whereabouts were unknown.
Fire near Cave Rock shuts down all lanes of US50 Monday night
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/04/2022 - 8:54pmUPDATE 10:47PM: According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Small wild land fire near Cave Rock boat landing is under control but currently Highway 50 is closed in both directions while Tahoe Douglas Fire finishes with the cleanup.
BREAKING NEWS: A fire has been reported near Cave Rock tonight and all lanes of US-50 are now closed in the area.
Please stay away so fire resources can get to the scene.

Electra Fire in Amador County now at 3800 acres, 5% contained
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/04/2022 - 6:58pmUPDATE 8:00PM TUESDAY: The Electra Fire slowed today and is now 3,800 acres in size. Firefighters have been able to gain a 5 percent control line on the fire that is burning in dry grass near Electra Rd and Hwy 49 near the Amador and Calaveras county lines, outheast of Jackson in Amador County.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Lake Tahoe should expect some haze again on Tuesday from the fire.

A dry pattern will persist for the upcoming week with typical late-day breezes. Temperatures will gradually warm to near average later in the week

Two former Navy shipmates reunite in South Lake Tahoe after 56 years
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/03/2022 - 7:27pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The year was 1962, and Orly Larson and David Kramer enlisted in the Navy from their perspective hometowns. Two years later the men met when they were assigned to the USS Belknap DLG26, a brand new guided-missile destroyer.
The two shipmates were both Radarmen Second Class, specializing in the Naval Tactical Data Systems. They were both members of the original commissioning crew, also known as “plank owners."
Orly and David served together for two years on the ship, until the end of their enlistments, from 1964-66.
