Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe hosting public vaccination clinic for 5-12 year olds

Two hundred doses are available and interested parents can sign up at https://myturn.ca.gov/. Follow the prompts to be shown available clinics with appointments.
McClintock calls for Biden to reverse FEMA's decision to not assist individual Caldor Fire victims
Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/21/2021 - 9:24pmRepresentative Tom McClintock sent a letter to President Joe Biden on Friday, calling upon him to fulfill the promise he made to assist the victims of the Caldor Fire when he visited the scene on September 13, 2021.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has denied Governor Newsom’s appeal for Individual Assistance for victims of the Caldor Fire. The Caldor Fire is the 15th largest and 16th most destructive fire in the history of California. Nearly 800 homes were destroyed when the fire tragically wiped out the Gold Rush-era town of Grizzly Flats.

A weak cold front moves through Tuesday bringing breezy northwest winds, cloudy skies, and low-end chances for light rain/snow showers mostly over the far northern Sierra. High-pressure returns for the remainder of next week with dry conditions and seasonable temperatures prevailing, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

Girls were taught about the equipment and skills by the gym’s experienced climbing staff. Many earned their Climbing Adventure Badge or worked on some of the skills required to complete the badge for their level in Girl Scouts.

Driving down the West Shore after dark September 10, I wondered what I would see in the morning. I noticed mostly fire and law enforcement vehicles, and most businesses were shuttered. What would I see in daylight? Would there be ugly fire scars on the hills, bears in my kitchen, smoke stink in my closets?

Douglas County Sheriff's Office arrests teens after 12 vehicle burglaries and 3 stolen cars overnight
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/20/2021 - 7:00amDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Three juveniles were arrested on Friday for a series of vehicle burglaries and stolen cars overnight in Douglas County.
On November 19, 2021, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) responded to reports of 12 vehicle burglaries and three stolen cars in the Minden, Gardnerville, and Topaz areas.
DCSO received a Secret Witness tip of possible suspects involved in the thefts. DCSO Patrol Division and Investigations Division followed up on the tip and made the arrests of the three males. Additionally, two handguns were stolen during the thefts and recovered.

Nonprofit reaches settlement with AT&T over 8 miles of cable leaching lead into Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/19/2021 - 9:22pmLAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Eight miles of leaded cable weighing an approximated 150,000 pounds abandoned at the bottom of Lake Tahoe will have to be removed after a settlement agreement was finalized last week.
Divers discovered the abandoned cables in 2012 as they were removing trash from the bottom of Lake Tahoe. That discovery led to years of work, first to discover what the cables were, who they belonged to, and what they were doing to the lake.
The magnitude and impact of the cable cannot be understated. The discovery of the cable inspired the foundation of Below the Blue.

Stormwater monitoring following the Caldor Fire was positive, but more monitoring needed
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/19/2021 - 4:29pmLAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - On October 24th, during the storm driven by an atmospheric river, the League to Save Lake Tahoe’s staff and Pipe Keepers citizen scientist volunteers collected stormwater samples, made qualitative visual observations, and took quantitative measurements of water quality indicators, including turbidity. Participants monitored stormwater at 25 sites, including 16 stormwater pipes and 8 stream sites on Tahoe’s south shore that drain areas burned by the Caldor Fire.

LTBMU lifts Caldor Fire closure orders, repair begins on miles of damaged trails
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/19/2021 - 9:43amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) lifted the Caldor Fire closure orders this week and people are now starting to access the backcountry trails.
LTBMU staff have mitigated immediate hazard trees along roads and trails within the Caldor Fire area, but the public should be aware that many hazards still exist including fire-weakened trees and smoldering pockets of fuel. The LTBMU recommends that anyone accessing the Caldor Fire area exercise caution as hazards will continue to be present over the next five to ten years.

One of those awake was South Lake Tahoe resident John Gomez who shared this photo. This is a composite photo of the eclipse last night, which means it is a photo of the moon merged with a wide-angle shot of the sky.

At each of the businesses, there will be decorated trees available for viewing between November 26 - December 17, 2021. The trees will then be given away to lucky winners entering the contest and donating all day on the 17th.

For 25 years, Valhalla Tahoe has hosted an annual Holiday Faire at the Heller Estate for the enjoyment of the community. Valhalla Tahoe and its volunteers celebrate the season by decking the Grand Hall for everyone's enjoyment. This year, it will be held November 19-21.

The Eastern Sierra speaker series continues with two more campfire interpretive programs on Saturday and Sunday, November 20 and 21.

On November 16, 2021, at 4:45 p.m., a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a vehicular pursuit in the Gardnerville Ranchos. The suspect fleeing from the deputy was Blake Edward Thacker, a 31-year-old male who was wanted by the State of Oregon for a felony parole violation.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For the fifth consecutive year, a tree was cut down and transported to the Heavenly Village for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting celebration.
Early Tuesday morning, Ken Curtzwiler of K & K Services, Ed Cook Crane Services, and Haen Construction orchestrated the cutting of the large tree in South Lake Tahoe and transportation to its final destination.

Christmas Tree permits sell out in Lake Tahoe in 75 minutes - Truckee still has some available
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/17/2021 - 12:58pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 1,500 Christmas Tree permits offered this year by the USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) were sold out by 9:15 a.m., just 75 minutes after officially going on sale.
The permits have always been popular, and lines were even seen some years winding around the LTBMU offices in South Lake Tahoe. Since the permit purchases went online through the Recreation.Gov website, sales have been brisk.
The Eldorado National Forest permits sold out quickly as well.
Lake Tahoe prescribed fire operations to resume after Thanksgiving
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/16/2021 - 10:12pmThe Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) will resume fall prescribed fire operations after the Thanksgiving holiday and will continue burning throughout much of the fall and winter season, conditions and weather permitting. Prescribed fires help land managers reduce hazardous fuels that can feed unwanted wildfires. Smoke will be present.
