Intermittent offramp closures on I-80 next week from Truckee to Kingvale

Extended Interstate 80 (I-80) ramp closures between Kingvale and the Nevada state line are continuing next week for paving work.

A $2.4 million project is addressing deteriorated interstate on- and off-ramps at various locations in Nevada and Placer counties. Ramps throughout the Sierra corridor may be closed intermittently for paving, joint sealing, striping, and concrete curing time.

Part-time South Lake Tahoe residents die in Washington rafting tragedy

A 55-year-old man and his 10-year-old son from Berkeley, Calif. died on the North Fork of the Nooksack River in Washington after their raft overturned on June 14, according to authorities.

The father has been identified as John Coleman. He and his family had a second home in the county area of the South Shore for over ten years, and neighbors are mourning the loss of members of what they said was a "fun-loving" family.

One "amazing dog" ready for forever home after five weeks on the run, two rescues, one escape

A stray dog that survived more than five weeks on her own, during which time she was hit by a car and suffered injuries, is finally rehabilitated and ready for adoption. The dog's name is Estrella and she was first spotted in Tahoe City back in February. It took several tries and several weeks for animal control to rescue her. During that time, she was reportedly hit by a car and suffered injuries. Now, after extensive physical and mental rehabilitation, the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe (HSTT) is thrilled to announce she is available for adoption.

County moves from Code RED system to El Dorado County Emergency Alerts

Being part of the Code RED alert system in El Dorado County was key to navigating the Caldor Fire last summer, and changes have been made to better inform the community. The El Dorado County Office of Emergency Services partnered with CalOES to bring a new system, El Dorado County Emergency Alerts. This notification service goes to residents and businesses by app, telephone, cell phone, text message, email, and social media when there is a threat to the health or safety of residents.

Nevada motorists reminded to slow down and of "Move Over" law

NEO Connect, a broadband consulting firm, has been retained to conduct the analysis and present recommendations. The City Council recognizes the importance of high-speed broadband to the community in order to improve employment, educational, and economic development opportunities. The study directly addresses the City Council’s Strategic Priority 1.1 “Broadband for All” initiative.

Tahoe Transportation District relaunches East Shore Express for 2022 Summer season

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The popular East Shoe Express Shuttle service returns this summer, beginning June 25. The free transit line provides beachgoers and trail users recreation access from Incline Village, along SR28 to Sand Harbor Lake Tahoe State Park, and back again.

Last year, TTD had to suspend the East Shore Express due to a staffing shortage on the heels of COVID-19 pandemic service suspensions.

The service runs a continuous loop daily, including holidays, from the old Incline Village school site at 771 Southwood Boulevard to Sand Harbor State Park on State Route 28.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - As Steph Curry walked off the court after the Golden State Warriors won the NBA Championship just a few days ago, he was asked what he planned to do next. Curry said he was going to spend time with family and get in some golf.

Caltrans working on several road projects from South Lake Tahoe to Camino on US-50, expect delays

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. – Caltrans is alerting the traveling public to several ongoing projects impacting traffic on the U.S. Highway 50 corridor in El Dorado County.

Construction continues on a $55.4 million safety project on Highway 50 from Still Meadows Road to upper Carson Road in Camino to build a continuous concrete median barrier, an undercrossing for access north and south of the highway, drainage improvements, a wildlife undercrossing, and a roundabout connecting to the new undercrossing.

The Tahoe Fund and Friends of Ski Run extend matching campaign to $100,000 for Ski Run Community Park

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Fund and Friends of Ski Run announced on Tuesday the extension of their matching campaign for Ski Run Community Park. After meeting the initial $75,000 goal, the two organizations are now working toward a $100,000 match to build a custom bouldering wall in the park.

Tahoe Douglas Fire allowing homeowners to have backyard charcoal and wood fires with permit and inspection

Lake Tahoe area fire agencies released their 2022 Fire Restrictions for the season, and for the most part, are on the same page. Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) allows residents to have backyard wood or charcoal fires with both an inspection and permit.

On a Red Flag day, permit or not, no fires are allowed.

TDFPD Fire Marshal Eric Guevin said by requiring an inspection and permit they are able to ensure the location and surrounding area of the home's BBQ or fire pit is safe and protected.

Wylder Resort Hope Valley continues its Eastern Sierra history series this coming Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. with a living history presentation by author and historian David Woodruff. This week, it is about "Snowshoe Thompson-Mailman of the Sierra.”

John “Snowshoe” Thompson carried the mail across the deep Sierra Nevada snow during the winter for 20 years. Carrying 80 pounds of mail over the 180-mile round trip in just five days on his hand-crafted snow skates (skis), with nothing more than a jacket, dried meat, and matches.

Incline Village/Crystal Bay Visitors Bureau to host July 4th Drone Skyshow

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The Washoe County Board of Commissioners has approved a Drone Skyshow for the 4th of July in lieu of fireworks for the Incline Village/Crystal Bay Vistors Bureau. The board conducted a public hearing Tuesday and voted unanimously to approve the license for the bureau.

They will be conducting a Drone Skyshow for the Fourth of July celebration in Incline Village that is high-quality, innovative, environmentally sustainable, and fire-safe.

Free on-demand shuttle service being launched for South Shore residents and visitors

LAKE TAHOE, Nev./Calif. - The South Shore will soon have a new on-demand transit system serving the area from Al Tahoe Boulevard to the casino corridor. The launch of Lake Link, an app-based microtransit shuttle system will be on July 22.

Lake Link will be free to riders and will operate 365-days per year, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. Funding for the shuttles is a collaboration of public and private partnerships, and is a requirement of the new events center at Stateline.

Grand Jury Report finds no issues with El Dorado County jails or Juvenile Treatment Center

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The 2021/22 Grand Jury report on the El Dorado County jails and Juvenile Treatment Center (JTC) was released Monday, and they found no major issues at any of the three facilities.

They conducted its annual physical inspections of the sites in Placerville on January 5, 2022, and in South Lake Tahoe on November 10, 2021, including interviews with staff. It had been two years since a physical inspection was done as COVID-19 forced the inspections to be virtual in 2020-2021.

City Council meeting Tuesday to look at cannabis tax, final design of recreation center, housing element

Douglas County Sheriff's Office and family members seek help in locating teen

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is seeking information about the whereabouts of 15-year-old Matthew Jimenez. The teen was last seen on June 8 near Lampe Park.

Matthew is 5'11, 140 lbs, and has black/brown hair.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on the 8th, Matthew was seen near Lampe Park and was spotted wearing a gray shirt, black shorts, an unknown color backpack, and a silver necklace, and was in possession of his electric bicycle.

Authorities believe that Matthew may be in the Indian Hills or Carson City area.

Journey of Hope team cycling across country and makes stop in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Each year, more than 100 men embark on a cross-country cycling trip to test their limits, spread awareness, and celebrate the abilities of all people. With three routes kicking off on the West Coast, teams spend the summer crossing the country over a combined 12,000 miles with an arrival at the Capitol Lawn in Washington DC to mark the end of a life-changing event. Along the way, the team spreads the message of disability awareness through local media and makes stops at partner organizations where they deliver joy to their friends from the disability community.

Zephyr Cove crash sends four to hospital, at-fault driver arrested on suspicion of DUI

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - Some details have been released about Saturday's crash near Presbyterian Curve on US50 near Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe.

At 8:08 p.m. on June 18, the driver of a white BMW caused a collision on the highway, resulting in four injuries, one of them serious.

The crash is still under investigation and very few details have been released by the Nevada State Police - Highway Division.

The driver of the BMW hit a Toyota Rav4. The driver and a passenger of the Toyota were transported to Renown Hospital in Reno, the driver by Careflight, the passenger via ambulance.

Lake Tahoe seeing more illegal boat rentals and charters - agencies targeting those operations

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The lure of Lake Tahoe is historic, and has brought many to its shores to live or play, jump in, or boat on for well over a century. While it may feel good when it gets hot outside, the cold water of Lake Tahoe can be dangerous and needs to be respected, and many agencies around the lake are tasked with keeping the public safe.

One increasing way they are addressing safety issues is targeting illegal boat operators who rent out their watercraft or offer charters on their boats that come with captains.

There are two work zones over Mt. Rose from June 21-23 and one continuing on SR-28, so drivers need to be aware that there may be 30-minute delays in both Mt. Rose zones. Crews will be paving the final lift of asphalt on Mt. Rose Hwy SR-431 at the summit through the meadows starting Tuesday, June 21 through Thursday, June 23 from 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

The path connects Minden and Gardnerville and to Minden’s new fishing pond located south of Buckeye Road. The Martin Slough Trail is a great amenity for Douglas County as it offers residents and tourists alike a chance to enjoy the great outdoors on a paved trail and additionally provides a pathway for residents to utilize full bike and walking access to the Minden and Gardnerville downtown areas.

Evacuation Order issued for part of Genoa
