ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - Blue-green algae toxins have been detected in Indian Creek Reservoir and lake users have been advised to avoid water contact. The Alpine County Health Department has been working with The Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board and South Tahoe Public Utility District and the Alpine Watershed Group (AWG) in determining that there are levels of toxin associated with blooms of blue-green algae in multiple lakes in Alpine County that are toxic to animals and humans.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With California’s new state budget awaiting an imminent signature from the governor, Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is poised to bring affordable student residential living to its South Shore campus.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The body of a 32-year-old man from San Francisco who was backpacking in Desolation Wilderness has been found.

On June 28, 2022, at about 1:40 p.m., the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) received a report of a tent that had been abandoned and blown over near Lake Aloha, southwest of Lake Tahoe. The reporting party said they were concerned due to the condition of the tent and personal belongings that were at the campsite. The items found included a USFS Wilderness Permit, and a driver’s license belonging to Jia Huang.

Each year, the Tahoe-Douglas Rotary Club awards higher education scholarships to deserving Whittell High seniors in support of their post-secondary educational plans. The Rotary Scholarship Committee looks for students with character who have excelled in scholastics, leadership, athletics, and student activities.

CARSON CITY, Nev. - Train buffs from around the world are descending upon Carson City July 1-4 for the Great Western Steam Up, a rare and unique gathering of historic steam trains. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The forty-seventh annual Lake Tahoe Community College graduation ceremony was held Friday evening, June 24, on LTCC’s synthetic turf soccer field. The focus of this year’s ceremony was celebrating the grit and determination demonstrated by this graduating class to reach this day.

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - The Tahoe Fund and the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) have announced a $50,000 matching campaign to build the Meeks Ridge Trail. This new 4.5-mile multi-use trail will provide a brand-new 10+ mile loop option for hikers and mountain bikers on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore.

STATELINE, Nev. – Edgewood Companies, one of Nevada’s oldest and

Winkel succeeds Steve Johnson, who will continue to be Director of Edgewood Companies and an active Board Member after serving as Chairman for the past 14 years. EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office held a ceremony in front of its Placerville headquarters on Monday to unveil the new highway signs in honor of Deputy Brian "Ish" Ishmael.

Sheriff D’Agostini and Senator Brian Dahle spoke at the event in front of “Ish’s” family, friends, and his law enforcement family. The signs were then mounted on both eastbound and westbound at US-50 and Missouri Flat Road.

What is it?

Over the past decade and a half working to protect and restore Lake Tahoe, I’ve learned many lessons. The first is that being paralyzed by our differences has dire consequences for the lake and our communities. Doing nothing is not an option. The second and most important lesson is that achieving anything requires each of us to find common ground, get over our turf, and work toward shared goals. Sounds simple, but in today’s fractured world, working to find common ground takes special work and the work is never done.

Excitement was in the air as Sugar Bowl Academy (SBA) graduated seventeen seniors on Saturday, June 11, at the Mount Judah Lodge.

In keeping with Sugar Bowl Academy tradition, underclassmen, classmates, and alumni individually introduced graduating seniors before awarding them their diplomas. The speeches demonstrated the seniors' important leadership role in the SBA community and highlighted aspects of each graduate's personality and character.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District (NLTFPD) responded to a commercial structure fire Sunday afternoon at 901 Tahoe Boulevard, T’s Mesquite Rotisserie. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office safely evacuated all occupants of the Incline Village restaurant.

The fire was knocked down quickly with damage contained to the area of origin.

NLTFPD thanks its agency partners Nevada Highway Patrol, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Nevada State Parks, and North Tahoe Fire Protection District.

The El Dorado National Forest Interpretive Association is offering several guided hikes/walks at Carson Pass over the next week.

Work zone updates from the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) for the Lake Tahoe area. Traffic in work zones will either be reduced to a single lane with flagger control or shifted lanes with reduced speeds. Drivers can expect up to 30-minute delay times. All work is weather and temperature permitting, and subject to change.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - The 2022 St. Theresa Bread & Broth 4 Kids Summer Program begins ON June 29 and will continue every Wednesday through August 24.

This is a wonderful opportunity for all Lake Tahoe South Shore children. Free food will be distributed weekly to children to ensure that every child has access to nutritious meals and snacks during the summer break from school. Children who have access to the free or reduced lunch program during the school year often have limited food resources during the summer, and the B&B Summer Program hopes to meet that need.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It has been 15 years since the Angora Fire swept through the North Upper Truckee and Angora Ridge neighborhoods of El Dorado County, taking with it 242 homes and 67 commercial structures as wind-driven flames burned through 3,100 acres.

It was a sunny afternoon on June 24, 2007, when the first calls of fire came in at 2:15 p.m. Within a few hours, the devastation was already evident but it was over a week before the fire was completely contained.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society is kicking off a summer of History Talks on the Beach on Tuesday, June 28 from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. To start off, the Borges Brothers will bring another entertaining evening of old South Lake Tahoe stories from their family's 65+ year local history in the area.

The history talks are at Lakeview Commons, 1004 Lakeview Avenue, South Lake Tahoe. Seating is in the beachfront stadium-style seating and the event is free.
