Submitted by Editor on Tue, 03/13/2012 - 10:08amTahoe Valley Elementary School was briefly locked down at around 10:30 a.m. after a report of a distraught man with a gun inside a home in the 800 block of Tahoe Island Drive.
The man walked out of a home, speaking on a phone, and was detained by South Lake Tahoe police and El Dorado County sheriff's deputies. According to police scanner traffic, Tahoe Valley school was locked down, briefly, as authorities circled the perimeter of the home, cutting off traffic in the area.

Douglas authorities look for suspects who tried to cash stolen check at bank

The primary suspect, an unidentified male adult, attempted to cash the stolen check at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday while using the drive-thru teller window, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jim Halsey.

The state gained an estimated 17,152 people from July 2010 to July 2011, an estimated increase of 0.6 percent, about equivalent to the increase of 0.7 percent the prior year. Two years ago, the state lost 27,677 people, a decrease of about 1.0 percent.
