South Lake Tahoe Firefighters 'Fill the Boot for Burns'

On April 6-7, firefighters seen on South Lake Tahoe streets may not be responding to a fire or other emergency. Off-duty firefighters from South Lake Tahoe Fire Department will be shaking their turnout boots and collecting donations to help “Fill the Boot for Burns.” This event on Friday at the Safeway on Johnson Boulevard and Saturday Intersection of Lake Take Boulevard and Park Street will raise money to support burn prevention and recovery programs in Northern and Central California.

Two-week Heavenly Spring Loaded 2012 festival continues

UPDATE, APRIL 6: With the California sun shining down on one of North America’s deepest snowpacks, Heavenly Mountain Resort is gearing up for its 16th annual Spring Loaded festival. The two-week event that began March 30 continues this weekend as a non-stop party full of concerts, competitions and some of the best spring ski and snowboard conditions at Lake Tahoe. This weekend's events include the Gunbarrel 25 hosted by Glen Plake.

Wind and snow expected this weekend for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra

A strong cold front will move through the region Saturday afternoon bringing high winds to the Sierra and Lake Tahoe region and up to 18 inches of snow in the higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. A High Wind Warning is in effect across the Sierra and Western Nevada from Friday night through Saturday. Wind gusts are expected to reach 60 mph through most valleys and up to 70 mph in wind prone areas with gusts over 100 mph across Sierra ridges.

Nevada’s Jobless Rate Shrinks Again In February But News Not All Good

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s unemployment rate fell four-tenths of a percentage point in February to a seasonally adjusted 12.3 percent, but the news is not all positive, a state agency reported today.
