South Lake Tahoe Library offers World Explorers' Club: Pen Pals From Around the World
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 12/25/2012 - 5:55amThe South Lake Tahoe Branch of the El Dorado County Library invites children to its World Explorer's Club called Pen Pals From Around the World with the first meeting on Jan. 15 at 3:30 p.m. Participants ages 10 to 14 can:
— Learn about young people from around the world.
— Sample International Food.
— Help fight poverty.
— Create art projects to share with your Pen Pal.
Game Day at South Lake Tahoe Branch Library

Just bring yourselves, we supply the games. The Library is located at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
The Library will also begin its World Explorer's Club called Pen Pals From Around the World with the first meeting on Jan. 15 at 3:30 p.m. Participants ages 10 to 14 can:

New Lake Tahoe plan allows for more development, revitalization
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 12/25/2012 - 5:37amLake Tahoe towns will grow taller and denser under a new regional plan that supporters hope will quell a rebellion by Nevada against land use regulations that have restricted development in the basin.
The new plan is intended to rid the area of some of its midcentury strip development and turn town centers into more inviting, greener destinations that will revive the area's ailing economy.

National Winter Trails Day at Van Sickle State Park

As part of National Winter Trails Day, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association will host free guided hikes on Jan. 12, 2013 from 10am to 2pm through the newly opened Van Sickle State Park behind Harrah’s Casino at Stateline South Shore Lake Tahoe.
There will also be outdoor gear demonstrations, raffle prizes, and a Warming Party at Explore Tahoe after the hikes.
This South Lake Tahoe event is a family-friendly introduction to snowshoeing and to winter opportunities on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Participants will have to bring their own shoes, snacks, water and warm clothing.

Reno woman identified in Mount Rose Highway fatal crash
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 12/24/2012 - 9:39amA 50-year-old Reno woman has been identified as the victim of a fatal accident Friday on State Route 431, Mount Rose Highway, east of Joy Lake Road in Washoe County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
Tracy L. Scott died after the 2001 GMC Yukon XL she was driving was struck by a Dodge pickup towing a two-axle utility trailer driven by a 36-year-old Reno man. Scott was traveling westbound on the two-lane highway at the time of the crash.

Another storm expected for Lake Tahoe on Christmas Day
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 12/24/2012 - 6:59amSnow on Christmas afternoon is in the forecast prompting the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra.
An area of low pressure will drop into the Sierra and Western Nevada Tuesday bringing 10 to 15 inches above 7,000 feet with 5 to 10 inches in the Lake Tahoe Basin, according to the weather service. The highest amounts will be along and west of Highway 89.
South Lake Tahoe Snow Removal Route Map is online

That’s the Big Blue Express, the newest chairlift at Squaw Valley and one of the latest examples of hundreds of millions of dollars in improvements the corporate owners of Lake Tahoe’s premier ski resorts are funneling into their properties.
Max, 10 years old and on his first ski trip, was plenty impressed. He was “mostly staying up” as he and his family skied Squaw’s beginner terrain off the Big Blue Express, which began operation a couple of weeks ago.
“It’s awesome,” he summed up succinctly.
