Opinion: Ski Bum spouts off...again

Event Date:
May 11, 2012 (All day) Had a brain fart last month and couldn’t think of anything worthwhile to say. Guess I will have a little catching up to do this month as the ski season is over and I am bored out of my mind as well as pissed I have to go back to work.
Wow, what a closing we had on The Face for the last day at Heavenly. Pete Sonntag and Todd Rudis opened The Face from noon till 4:15 and we got our last jolly’s in before the annual parking lot party which by the way was one of the biggest I have seen in a long time.
Todd is in charge of grooming and brought in snow so we could get back to the chair and Pete is the head honcho making the decision happen and we say THANK YOU!!!! Last chair bragging rights went to Mark Demaio “The Fuzzy Faced Mono Skier” He managed to get last chair at Heavenly but I beat him out at Sierra At Tahoe the next day although I wish I hadn’t. I did not know that last chair at Sierra gets stopped at the top and everyone, over 200 Skiers and Boarders, pummel everyone on it with snowballs. All those cute girls and here I am without protection, damn.
I have talked in the past about how I feel there is a lack of history here at South Shore and we need to increase our awareness on how we all got to where we are today far as South Lake Tahoe is concerned. We do have streets, meadows and buildings named after some of the pioneers and first movers and shakers who formed our area but I will be dammed if I can find one for the first residents of the area.
I am talking about the Washoe Native American Indians who, according to their website, have inhabited this area for over NINE THOUSAND YEARS yet other than Washoe street in the county have nothing named after them. Their evidence of being here is very apparent to many of us who roam the meadows around the area of the Truckee river and Al Tahoe by many of the Pine Nut grinding holes in the granite boulders found there. We have a unique opportunity here as the Washoe Tribal Elders have offered a sacred name for our new El Dorado Beach which is currently going to be called Lakeview Commons.
Tahnu Leweh which translated means Peoples Place should be at least considered either the name or an addition to whatever name is chosen. What I can’t figure out is why we have to be so much like North Shore in trying to find our identity over here. The powers to be and the folks who are making these decisions, can you say NV Chamber and consultants who don’t live here?, keep trying to rebrand us to be like the other side. Tahoe North-Tahoe South and Commons Beach-Lakeview Commons.
Old theme I keep saying but stop reinventing the wheel and go back to what we were in the first place “Americas All Year Playground and “South Shore”. We really screwed the pooch when the white eyes first arrived out west as the Native Americans had no taxes, women did all the work around the teepee and all the men did was hunt and fish.
I wish Happy Homestead would put up a fence around all their concrete vaults at the cemetery, creeps me out for some reason every time I drive down Johnson Blvd.. Another fence needs to go up around American gas station across from Meeks to hide all the crap out front, is this a third world country yet? Yes I have long hair just to hide my red neck.
Remember whoever gets to me first to rack up my AMEX card with a huge party then spread my ashes on Mt. Tallac and The Face before they figure out I aint got no money.
LTUSD needs a pat on the back for all the work they have done improving our schools and increasing educational opportunities for the next generation who someday will be taking care of us. Now there is a scary thought. Any way I know I bagged a bit on their snow removal operations last time about when is a school day called.
There are several valid reasons that are taking into account temperatures, density, rate of snow falling and several other factor that Steve pointed out to me in an email that I found quite interesting. I didn’t have all that information available to me so I just went off of where is the snow going to go and I saw it going nowhere. LTUSD does a great job and should get that pat on the back but only after all the snow is gone.
Sign of the Month:
Where is Pat Sajak and Vanna White when we need them so desperately for a GARAG SALE. This sign located on Los Angeles street needed to get a vowel in the worst way.
Hey Dr. Robertson, I type pretty good since you took my finger, the old hunt and peck method still works with the nose picking ones and I am up to a blazing twelve word a minute.
As I mentioned before I finally got into the 90’s and got a facebook page and posted all the old Face Rat photos from all the party’s. www.facebook.com/sltskbm or in the search engine box type skibum and dars my purtty face.
Later. Skibum
