South Tahoe Advocate David Kelly Receives State Recognition

David Kelly of South Lake Tahoe has been recognized by the State of California’s Department of Rehabilitation as one of the “50 Notable People in the Disability Community.”

In celebration of their 50th anniversary, the Department of Rehabilitation solicited nominations for “individuals who inspire others by their advocacy, leadership, accomplishments, achievements, and dedication to the disability movement and to employment, independence, and equality of Californians with disabilities.” Mr. Kelly will now be featured on Rehabilitation’s website here.

David Kelly is the leading disability advocate in the South Lake Tahoe area and has been the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Tahoe Area Coordinating Council for the Disabled (TACCD) for the past 25 years. He has also served on numerous other local, county, and state boards of directors including the State of California Developmental Disabilities Area Board III.

For many years David Kelly has advocated tirelessly for improvements that enhance the quality of life for the area's residents and he has done so despite having his own significant disabilities. Mr. Kelly is being honored for his life’s body of work that includes being the moving force behind the construction of three local residential facilities that provide low and affordable housing for seniors and those with disabilities: the Tahoe Senior Plaza, Kelly Ridge (named in his honor), and Sky Forest Acres.
