Lake of the Sky Outfitters is Lake Tahoe’s newest outdoor store specializing in hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. Owners Peter and Nancy Hussmann bring over 35 years of experience hiking and cross country skiing in the Lake Tahoe Basin to their business.” We are excited to share our knowledge with our customers and help them pick out the right piece of equipment or clothing for their outdoor activities”.
This winter we will be selling and renting Fischer cross country skis, Atlas and MSR snowshoes, along with selling a complete selection of accessories, apparel and footwear. One of our guiding philosophies is to try to offer product that is new to the outdoor industry and to South Lake Tahoe. A few examples we are excited to be offering are the “Powder Keg” backcountry ski and snow board pack from Mile High Mountaineering, which received a perfect 5 out of 5 in this winter’s Outside Magazine’s Buyer’s Guide. Lake of the Sky Outfitters is the only dealer in California to offer this innovative and super comfortable pack, so come by the shop and check it out. We will also be featuring “Ice Bugs”, the revolutionary shoe which does away with the need for additional traction devices by featuring retractable carbide tips. Their BUGrip technology features dynamic function where the sole of the shoe adapts to the surface it is on so that you have traction when you need it and not when you don’t. They are insulated to -20 degrees and are lightweight and comfortable to boot! In apparel we will have Loki brand soft shells with built in mittens and face and face shields, kind of like what we had when we were kids, and constructed of weather resistant fabrics.
We also have our Loyal Hiker Program which gives our customers additional ways to save on purchases and receive free goods. While you are in our store visit our “Basecamp” room where you can get a free cup of hot beverage and look at trail guides, maps, Sierra Nevada pictorials, or just sit and relax while enjoying our ongoing videos of some of our favorite places.

Lake of the Sky Outfitters works with environmental and socially conscious companies who give back to our planet and its inhabitants. In keeping with that philosophy we donate a percentage of our quarterly earnings to local nonprofit organizations as well as gear and apparel for fund raising events.
