Event Date:
December 11, 2013 - 4:00pm With the holidays right around the corner, many of us are beginning to think about warm meals with loved ones and the joys of exchanging gifts. However, many local families with few resources are struggling to rebuild their lives after experiencing violence. They are solely focused on how they will pay rent and provide food and warm clothing for their families. For the thirteenth year in a row, Live Violence Free is organizing an opportunity for community members and businesses to come together to provide happier holidays for local survivors of violence. Last year the community helped hundreds of individuals who were working with Live Violence Free. Many mothers cried when they saw the gifts donors had brought for their children. We know that in these challenging times, more families than ever need your help.
There are many ways you can help local families who have been working closely with Live Violence Free:
• Choose one of the ornaments from our “Giving Tree” to either adopt a child or make a donation towards our Gift of Hope Program to support our shelter.
• Make a special end-of-the-year tax deductible donation towards Live Violence Free to support our other comprehensive and trusted programs and services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
• Donate your time as a volunteer working directly with survivors of violence, educating our community about violence, assisting with fundraising events, or by providing administrative support to our advocates.
Gift of Hope Program:
Thanks to our shelter program, families are provided with a safe place where they are given the opportunity to heal and thrive as individuals. We work towards empowering and strengthening survivors to become self-sufficient and independent members of our community. Your gift will help ensure that our survivor’s basic needs continue to be met by assisting us with the costs for food, emergency clothing, diapers, formula and toiletries for all families in our shelter.
The deadline to adopt a child is December 6th and the deadline to turn in gifts is December 11th, by 4 p.m.
Live Violence Free is located at 2941 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Please contact Christina at 544-2118 ext. 7650, or by email at czepeda@liveviolencefree.org to let us know how you would like to make a difference in the life of a family in our community affected by violence this holiday season.
