First degree murder charges filed in death of Douglas County infant

A 23-year old Carson Valley man is now facing first degree murder charges in the death of this two month old daughter Ava Getty.

The infant was brought into the Carson Valley Medical Center by her father, Trent Getty, on January 7 with serious injuries. According to Douglas County Sheriff's investigators, the infant died after suffering substantial injuries that were the result of traumatic abuse and inconsistent with the statement given by Getty regarding how the injury occurred.

On January 10, Getty was found at a bus stop in Sacramento after a warrant for his arrest was issued. He was taken into custody by the Sacramento Police Department.

On Tuesday, January 13, 2015, he appeared before the Superior Court in Sacramento, California and waived extradition back to Nevada. Getty was returned to Douglas County and booked into the Douglas County Jail on first degree murder charge. Getty is currently being held in the jail without bail and will appear in the East Fork Justice Court on Friday.
