Man dies after altercation at Heavenly Village

A man whose actions lead to his being detained by security at Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe on New Year's Eve has died.

The 46-year-old transient was acting erratic and causing a disturbance near the fountain on December 31, according to South Lake Tahoe Police Lt. Shannon Laney. Security detained the man and when police officers arrived they recognized he was in medical distress and immediately started life-saving measures.

The unidentified man, who previously had resided in Oceanside, California and

Palm Beach, Florida, was transported to the Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. He never left the hospital and died on January 9, 2018.

A cause of death has not yet been determined by the Washoe County Coroner.

At this time no other details are available and the case is still under investigation. Once the cause of death is released, SLTPD will proceed accordingly with the case according to Laney.

South Tahoe Now reached out to the Shops at Heavenly Village for a comment but that call has not been returned.
