South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue honors staff

Chief Jeff Meston and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) held their annual awards ceremony on Friday January 29, 2016 to celebrate the department's teams members and accomplishments for the past year.

During the ceremony, the following people were honored:

Firefighter of the Year – Mike Mileski

Paramedic of the Year – Sophie Tetlow
Dispatcher of the Year – Linda Clark
STAT Volunteer of the Year – Leonard Smith

Fire Chief’s Meritorious Awards were presented to Marty Creel, Kim George, Jody Benavidez, and Brenen Davis for their work on special projects.

The projects and accomplishments that were highlighted during the evening were:

Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus’s (SCBA) were purchased for all personnel with grant funding.

Firefighters logged over 17,000 hours of training collectively. (Training is the number two priority for the department, with calls for services being their priority.)

Hired and trained 12 new EMTs and Paramedics, which are working closely with fire personnel to respond to emergencies and transport patients to their destinations.
With the addition of 12 new EMT’s and Paramedics, SLTFR is able to respond with three (3) people on each engine to every emergency, which is safer for them, and a greater help to those in need in our community.

The City added 13 life-saving Automated External Defibrillators (AED) machines around the City, including the Senior Center, airport, and police patrol cars.

The South Tahoe Action Team (STAT) was developed and recently completed its fifth training class to assist the community in the event of a major disaster in our City. For information to participate in upcoming classes, go to www.cityofslt.us/stat

New fitness equipment was purchased in 2015 on a grant.
