Couple convicted of 2015 mail and identity thefts in El Dorado County

San Joaquin County residents Aman Izatt, 30, and Jarrod Izatt, 35, were sentenced to over 24 years in prison on January 27 for their part in a 2015 identity theft case in El Dorado County.

The couple was found in possession of approximately 40 victims’ personal identifying information in Pollock Pines, Calif. The victims were residents of numerous states, including Texas, New Jersey, and North Carolina. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the crimes, and was led to a storage facility located in San Joaquin County belonging to the couple. There, deputies found a stockpile of personal identifying information belonging to multiple victims. The couple had several folders listing the victims’ credit card information, social security numbers, addresses, and bank account numbers.

Further investigation revealed the couple had obtained possession of a stolen checkbook. The couple then proceeded to write fraudulent checks from the checkbook, totaling approximately $19,000. The couple was also found counterfeiting money and forging checks issued by an insurance company and credit card company.

Judge James Wagoner sentenced the couple in El Dorado County Jail. Due to a 2011 change in the law, their prison time is now “local prison.” Accordingly, nine years of their prison sentence will be served in the county jail, and the remaining 15 year prison sentence will be served on mandatory community supervision.

Deputy Miller from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office was the lead deputy on the case, and the case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Brett Swenson.
District Attorney Vern Pierson stated, “Identity theft cases continue to be an ongoing and growing crime in our community. This case represents one of the most pervasive uses of the victims’ personal information our County has seen. It also demonstrates that our office is committed to working with local law enforcement to ensure these criminals are held accountable for their actions.”
