Event Date:
February 27, 2019 (All day)
South Tahoe High School students and staff are invited to a presentation on avalanches on February 27 at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. in the school's Angora and Cascade rooms in the student union.
Popular avalanche educator Richard Bothwell will be the presenter for the event which is sponsored by the Nickolay Dodov Foundation Avalanche Education and Backcountry Safety program. This is the fourth year the foundation has made the presentation to South Tahoe High students.
The foundation was set up to promote snow sports safety and awareness through fun educational programs and events in the light of Nickolay. In March of 2012, at the age of 26, Nickolay Dodov died in an avalanche in Haines Alaska while heli-boarding with the Alaska Heliskiing Company.
Avalanches kill more than 150 people worldwide each year. Most are snowmobilers, skiers, and snowboarders.
