What could be the last of its kind for some time in South Lake Tahoe, The Aspens at South Lake is celebrating its completion with a grand opening on Thursday, February 27.
The new affordable housing complex is 48 units and cost about $9.5 million to build. 47 of the units will be assisted units which are based on income needs and will likely be filled by service industry employees and single parents with entry level jobs. The Aspens bring the total number of affordable housing units in South Lake Tahoe to 350.
With the end of redevelopment agencies in the state, funding for these types of projects ended as well. Prior to being disbanded, the city's agency was going to put $2.5 million into the Aspens project.
Among the amenities of the energy efficient one, two and three bedroom units are private balconies or patios, air conditioning, washer and dryer hookups, a playground and a business center.
The celebration will take place at 3 p.m. at the Aspen's Community Center at 3521 Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe. Refreshments will be provided.
