SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Understand more about the opioid epidemic at the next Barton Health Wellness Lecture on Thursday, February 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Barton Center for Orthopedics & Wellness, 2170B South Avenue, South Lake Tahoe.
Dr. Matthew Wonnacott will lead the lecture and cover topics including how opioids became an epidemic and what kind of help is available locally for those fighting an addiction to the drug.
Opioids are a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, and pain relievers available legally by prescription, such as oxycodone (OxyContin®), hydrocodone (Vicodin®), codeine, morphine, and many others.
The South Lake Tahoe Drug Free Coalition will provide their locking medication bags for free. These bags allow patients to lock up medication to keep it out of the hands of people not prescribed the pills.
Registration is not required, but recommended. Visit https://www.bartonhealth.org/tahoe/wellness-lecture-series.aspx to register and for more information on the lecture series.
