Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra recently honored 12 South Tahoe Middle School (STMS) students for their winning Writing Festival essays. Each year the members of the club collaborate with the Language Arts teachers at STMS to provide an opportunity for students to express themselves.
Winning essays are selected from each grade level. First place and first place honors winners each won a $75 cash award, second place $50 and third place $25.
Sixth grade winners were Clyde Ripins, Jack Rich, Luke Mueller and Maddie Kay. The focus of their essay was “Take a Stand on Something”.
The seventh grade essay subject was “Is Technology Good or Bad?”. The winners were Sophia Lamore, Allison Kennedy, Cameron Lehmann, and Brandon Rios.
Winners for eight grade essays were Ryan Newberger, Casey Turner, Ashley Trejo, and Michael Parsons. Their focus was “Who Would Make a Good Female President”.
The winners, their families, STMS Middle School Assistant Principal Karin Holmes, and Language Arts Teachers joined Soroptimist members at their March 12 breakfast meeting to hear the students read their essays, and present them their awards.
Congratulations to all of these bright, articulate, and creative students. To find out more about Soroptimists, visit their website.
