EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Costco is in the preliminary stages of considering building a warehouse in El Dorado Hills on the east side of Silva Valley Parkway, almost 80 miles to the west of Lake Tahoe on US50.
According to a County spokesperson, Costco has an internal selection and approval process which includes the company president doing a site visit. Costco representatives said they hope to have a final decision in April.
The new location is three miles and one freeway exit away from another Costco in Folsom. The company said it isn't unusual for them to building stores in close proximity and the El Dorado Hills location would take pressure off the very busy Folsom store.
There are approximately 40,000 Costco members in the trade area of El Dorado Hills so the necessary customer base already exists, and when the new Folsom Ranch neighborhood will add another 10,000 homes and a school demand on the current store is expected to grow.
This warehouse would follow Costco’s typical size of 150,000 square feet. The company would hold community meetings to gather input on the design to ensure it reflects the look and feel of El Dorado Hills and infrastructure in that area. The new warehouse would have approximately 780-800 parking spaces.
If they decide to move forward with the project they expect to open in 2022 after an approximate 18-24 months for environmental approvals and permitting and a year to build the warehouse
A new warehouse would bring about 250-300 new jobs that start at $15/hour for service assistants, $23/hour for cashiers and $28.25/hour for meat cutters.
