South Lake Tahoe students complete WeCan! Health and Fitness Challenge
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/03/2015 - 8:20pm
South Lake Tahoe elementary students just completed four weeks of Barton Health's We Can program. We Can stands for "Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity and Nutrition."
The students had weekly challenges that focused on fitness and nutrition goals. PE teachers from Bijou Elementary, Environmental Magnet School, Sierra House, and Tahoe Valley orchestrated the program by motivating students with weekly goals and the Cafeteria staff served fruits and vegetables to match the color of the week.
The fourth and final week’s challenge was to try a new healthy food and eat red fruits and vegetables. Lake Tahoe Sustainability Collaborative members, Barton Health staff, and parent volunteers passed out dried cranberries and sugar snap peas for the students to try. Barton Health donated prizes and joined Raley’s in providing snacks.
